Yeah, the backlogs can get pretty atrocious at times, which is why we definitely need people to stop opposing candidates for political userboxes and spelling errors and the like. *sigh* By the way, all the poetry seems to be about how much I block people! Hello Walton. About your support in Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Tenebrae2: although I disagree with you, I understand that some might feel that the canvassing thing is no big deal. But there are pretty strong concerns about this user (civility, newbie biting, misunderstanding of the role of admins) that have nothing to do with the canvassing incident. Of course, you do have generous standards on RfA, but in this case, I feel like you're putting a protest vote more than an honest evaluation of the candidate's fitness to be an admin. As a general note about canvassing: Nobody's inclined to find the people who don't like them and say "hey I know we've had a lot of contentious disputes, so I just thought you'd like to know I'm on RFA". So, referring to the table on Wikipedia:Canvassing, the audience would almost inevitably be partisan. The resultant vote-stacking would be likely to override otherwise disinterested community consensus. It's like jury tampering. It may best for RFA to be evaluated by those people who can just check out a user's contributions and make a decision from that, without bias. If people who are already inclined to support or oppose happen across the RFA, that's just a social effect of the wiki. But to deliberately canvass, which would slant it one way or the other, is a bad idea. If you're thinking, "but maybe it could be done fairly", it probably can't be, because our ape brains are heavily and subconsciously disposed to selection bias; people will just tend to avoid those who might not support, even if the decision to do so is made subconsciously. ··coel acan 23:42, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're certainly entitled to that opinion. =) But if there's any knee-jerk opposes that I'm perfectly comfortable with, it would be those for vote-stacking. Last I checked you're a perfectly reasonable admin, but I'm no great judge of civility concerns; I say something I regret maybe once or twice a week, and more if I've been doing a lot of monotonous deletions, or if I'm in a debate.
