Your message re Lipari[edit]

I am still finding my way around the workings of this site. If this is not your preferred method of response, You will have to excuse it till I figure out the methods properly. My family is from Lipari and Salina. On one side we are a family that arrived after the depopulation urged on by the authorities as "second sons" of Italian nobility. They did not know what else to do with us! the other side contains no less than three families who predate the raid, and returned afterward. I have a family blog if this is of any interest to you, but it will take me a day or two to find the source and then to decide if I have the legal right to quote it...I am new at that as well and fear to mis-step. If you are personally concerned, I will report it directly to you. Otherwise it will take a few days.

Blogs are not a valid source. If you can find a valid source, you don't need to quote it, but just add it as a citation (see WP:Citing sources). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 23:45, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MyriaNed[edit]

Hello WikiDan61, I'am new user at Wikipedia and post a new article about MyriaNed; which will be deleted because the text is from DevLab. For your information. I'am a member from DevLab and writing about MyriaNed. see: www.devlab.nl wsn.chess.nl

Do I have to create new text for Wikipedia?

best regards Marc Bisscheroux marc.bisscheroux@chess.nl —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcbisscheroux (talkcontribs) 14:31, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Marc,
The text you have provided does not appear to violate any copyrights, so it will not be deleted for that reason. However, the article does appear to be original research, which cannot be accepted by Wikipedia. If the research about this new technology has been published elsewhere, you can write an article describing the technology that references those published sources. If the research has not yet been published, you may not use Wikipedia to publish otherwise unpublished research. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:43, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Neuralitic[edit]

Hi WikiDan61,

To help you to establish notability by adding reliable, I add secondary sources about Neuralitic. Don't hesitate if you have any questions.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 7formining (talkcontribs) 15:33, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Let's examine the references you have provided:
  1. http://neuralitic.com/idc-to-watch-2010 -- The company's own website -- not an independent source.
  2. http://www.vanillaplus.com/im_files/pages/VP_Dec09_20.pdf -- Dead link (returns a 404 error).
  3. http://neuralitic.com/ -- Company's website again
  4. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUS103166+28-Jun-2010+MW20100628 -- Press release -- not generally useful for establishing notability
  5. http://www.comverse-expo.com/2010/indoor.asp -- Evidence that the company appeared at a technology expo. So?
  6. http://www.yankeegroup.com/ResearchDocument.do?id=53591 -- Requires a registration to view so hard to say what this says.
  7. http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=CA2TIW10&sessionId=FB93A4CD56F7E3FBBD7924D22092596A -- Top ten companies to watch -- such lists generally do not indicate current notability, only the possibility of future notability
  8. http://www.vanillaplus.com/im_files/pages/VP_Dec09_20.pdf -- duplicate reference that is still a 404 error
Overall, you haven't impressed me with this list of references. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:50, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,I cleaned the references and I added articles from Financial Post and Mobile Marketer. If you want, I can send to you a copy of article from Vanilla Plus and Yankee Group. NorgesEnergi[edit]

Hi WikiDan61- I have tried to establish this article in the same way as articles about other companies. How can it be redone to meet the standards of Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sennikken (talkcontribs) 12:37, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article does not cite any sources. Wikipedia articles must be verifiable, meaning people must be able to review the cited sources to verify that the material in the article is true. The cited sources must be reliable and independent of the subject of the article. Also, the company itself must be notable, meaning that enough independent coverage must be available to indicate that this is a company that has received significant attention prior to its article's creation on Wikipedia. I understand that not all articles meet these criteria; that is a separate problem to be addressed. At this point, we need to address the problems in your article. I was unable to find any sources, but then I am searching in English. A search of Norwegian language sources may prove more fruitful. (It is acceptable to cite foreign language sources in the English Wikipedia, although English language sources are preferable.) WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:53, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - thank you. NorgesEnergi is one of the two the largest end-user seller of electricity in Norway. But since NorgesEnergi is Norwegian there is little information in English on the web about the company. What kind of sources would be ok? Newspaper articles? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sennikken (talkcontribs) 13:30, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Something to verify the claim of "one of the two largest end-user sellers" would be great. A newspaper article in Norwegian would be fine, or even a listing of Norwegian energy resellers by size (including sales data to verify). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:51, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you - will find a source and put it in tomorrow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sennikken (talkcontribs) 13:56, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - I have now put a reference in the article. The number will be updated soon to show 2009 number, but on the list NorgesEnergi are number two of the end-user sellers. Unfortunately it is only in norwegian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sennikken (talkcontribs) 07:23, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the source you provided lists the company as 11th. While this may reflect the fact that the list mixes primary and end-user sellers, there is no way to verify from this source that NordesEnergi is the second largest end-user seller. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:16, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have now added a newspaper article about NorgesEnergi, saying "Norways largest end-user seller of electricity" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sennikken (talkcontribs) 13:44, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Burlington Teen Tour Band[edit]

Thank you for the advise to write in a third person point of view. I will try and correct / re-write shortly. You asked for verification on awards - other then showing the actually trophies etc I am not too sure how to verify these awards? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Verification would be provided by citing newspaper articles that announced the award, or citing the website of the actual competitions where BTTB was listed as a winner. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:58, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cambridge Dancers' Club[edit]

Hello, WikiDan61. You have new messages at Cudtcaptain's talk page.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for looking at the article. I am a member of the committee running CDC so I can see your point about conflict of interest, but I've been charged with creating a wiki page and I'm not sure wwho else would do it. I think that the age and the size of the club (60 years old, c. 2000 members, puportedly the largest ballroom dance club in Europe) make it worthy of an entry, and I have tried to write from a neutral viewpoint. There are comparable entries for other dance clubs. I've asked some others to add details to ensure that it is accurate and neutral. Is this the right sort of thing to do or is there something I should change about the article?

Thanks!

Just because an organization wants a Wikipedia page, that doesn't mean the organization gets to write the page. A better route would be to request an article. However, since you have gone ahead and created it, there doesn't appear to be anything horribly wrong with the page. Let it be for now and let other independent editors improve it using sources you provided and other sources they can find themselves. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:36, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

csd candidates that are attacks[edit]

If you notice a new hoax page about a person that has controversial material (eg. criminal records, etc), please blank the page (or at least the controversial material) in addition to adding the speedy template. Thanks! ErikHaugen (talk) 21:58, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you not think sending this one to AFD 29 hours after creation might not have been a little hurried? I do understand the difficulties you have had with the author, and his other edits[1] and it does seem this new editor does not quite understand his way around the project (an understatement), but I have the sense that at least Proyecto Dos can be saved. I'll drop you a note when I have done more to the article. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 00:39, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm still working on it, but even without a current article, director Guillermo Fernández Groizard is a notable and quite prolific television director in Spain,[2] and this film represents his feature film debut. And AS that debut, it has gained attention and critical response in Spanish press. The article is undergowing a complete transformation and now receiving the attention it merits. So far, what began as this stub with a minor assertion of notability, is now THIS... with proper sourcing (and more coming). I invite you to review the article and offer suggestions for continued improvement. Thanks, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 03:49, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • And thanks for THIS I get lucky once in a while... and my German and Spanish translation skills are not too rusty. Best regards, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:16, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Historical veracity of the Apostles[edit]

...for that. I was in the middle of declining a speedy when it got tag-bombed. Fair enough, I 'spose, but it did seem a little premature. Anyway, thanks! TFOWR 14:55, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Avera and Inward[edit]

So I added a short new article about feudal duties, said what sort of duties they were, categorised them under Feudal duties, gave a reference supporting the content and an edit comment "More needed". I really don't see what more I should have done, short of coming back to add more content, which I was going to do but find it's all deleted. I really don't think this is the sort of welcome you want to be giving people. Not happy bunny, Avera Inward (talk) 18:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As I recall (the article has been deleted so I can't check), neither the article nor the reference provided gave any indication about what "avera" might have been, other than some vague service. The article that you had created amounted to even less than a dictionary definition, which is generally not acceptable as an article. In general, if you would like to create an article, but you can't create it all at once, you should consider creating the article in your user space (for example, at User:Avera Inward/Avera and Inward). Then, when the article has been fleshed out sufficiently, you may move it to the main space to allow other editors to read and edit it. I'm sorry if this result has made you unhappy -- I hope you will not take the time to read through the welcome message you received and to check out the advice given at the links there on how to create an article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:42, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That makes more sense than "little or no context". Thank you. Avera Inward (talk) 19:16, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The criteria for speedy deletion include a criterion defined as "Too little context". What this basically means is that the article did not provide enough information for another editor to see what was written and look for more advanced information. (Believe me, I tried!) In the absence of sufficient context to be able to tell what the article was about, the article gets deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So saying they were a form of feudal service, and putting it into the feudal service category, did not give you enough context to decide what sort of things they might be? Avera Inward (talk) 19:43, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No. The term "feudal service" is too broad and ill-defined. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Funny that there's a category for it: Category:Feudal duties then. Avera Inward (talk) 20:02, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but simply saying "Avera and inward was a feudal service" is meaningless. It would be like me telling you "jarva is a box". Well, you know what a box is, but that tells you almost nothing about jarva. The new article you have rewritten is better, but it still relies a bit too heavily on the historical jargon of feudal England. It refers to these terms as "feudal services" and proceeds to indicate that these "services" could be "claimed" or "commuted", but it is unclear (at least to this rather well-educated but uninitiated reader) what it means to "claim" or "commute" a service. A taxi driver provides me a service -- he drives me where I want to go. I cannot "claim" that service; I must purchase it. And the term "commute" has so many different meanings, I don't know which one is intended in the current context. Terms which may have had specific meanings in medieval England have different meanings now, and the article does not make this clear. I suspect from the array of sources that you are drawing on that you are deeply immersed in the study of medieval English history. For those of us who are not, you may want to try to clarify the article a bit. And, given that even with your depth of knowledge in the field, you still can't find a suitable definition for these terms, they may be just too obscure to be included in a modern encyclopedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:20, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My wikipage 'Oneryu' is nominated for deletion[edit]

Warning 1[edit]

Please state your opinionated remarks on the Talk Page before making any further interruptions to any of the articles. I believe you are unfamiliar with the wiki project of Puerto Rico and lack the essential knowledge to be pitching in for your own benefit as an administrator. If you would like to contribute, you may do, but starting here:

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Puerto_Rico

I have already discussed the issue with HQ

Regards (Plastic Beach (talk) 19:10, 16 September 2010 (UTC))[reply]

First, let me state that I am NOT an administrator. Second, I have been attempting to clean up articles by removing meaningless content. If the content is salvageable, I attempt to salvage it. I am not sure which particular edits you have problems with, but I suspect it was this one in which I removed the names of several local, non-notable streets, and the sentence "Calle Ribot was exchanged for Cortijo and it is now the crossover between AdC and Farmers' Market next to Condadito, which links to pages about several musicians and to a generic page about the term "Campo Alegre" -- none of which appear to have anything to do with this neighborhood.
Secondly, let me state that simply because a WikiProject exists, that does not mean that the members of that project have the exclusive right to edit articles in that project's purview.
Finally, I see no evidence that you have had any contact with User:Caribbean H.Q., and I don't know what it would matter if you did. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:34, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oneryu Deletion[edit]

How do I go about supporting the deletion of the Oneryu page? I have seen this gimmick on a poetry site, and it appears to be fronted by a single person looking to put his own name in the pages of poetry history. His abuse of Wikipedia has not gone unnoticed by the few poets on the site that have not fallen for his own hype. He is exclaiming to have built a "new world" of poetry, and his Wiki page seems to be his evidence.

Nounverber (talk) 13:46, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The banner at the top of Oneryu specifically instructs you to "share your thoughts at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page." So, just click on the blue link for "this article's entry", and edit that page to express your opinion on the matter. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:19, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
PS -- I should tell you that, as a new user with no other record of edits, your opinion at the articles for deletion discussion is likely to be discounted. Such discussions generally involve experience editors with more familiarity with Wikipedia policies. New users who come to Wikipedia solely to vote at such discussions tend to be ignored as this is often a technique used by people to tip the scales one way or another. You should take note that Wikipedia is not a democracy: that is it does not make decisions about article deletion or retention solely on the number of opinions one way or the other, but rather on the validity of the opinions in explaining how the article satisfies or fails the relevant Wikipedia policies. It is for this reason that experienced editors' opinions carry more weight than newcomers' opinions at such discussions. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:25, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Understood, and appreciated. I have been a member for a while, but just a browser. When I ran across this, I figured it was a solid place to start helping the Wiki community grow and remove unnecessary pages. There are others that I think could be expanded/reduced, but being a poet, this is the one that lit my editorial fire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.35.233.183 (talk) 14:59, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
