Image copyrights[edit]
The images you uploaded were copyrighted - one was from a company that sells vintage photographs, the other from the BBC's sports service. An image does not need to be registered with a copyright agency, or even have a © symbol next to it, for it to be copyrighted - by default, any published image or text is copyright the original author. For any image or text from another website to be acceptable for use in Wikipedia, the image must be licensed under a free content licence like the GFDL (the licence Wikipedia itself uses), or it must be released in the public domain. Note that images on the web are not public domain, unless the copyright owner explicitly says so. In this case, neither the BBC nor that photo company do this, which means they still retain the copyright, and we can't use them without permission.
I know, it's a pain, especially for photos of footballers, which are nearly always copyrighted. I would like to have them on Wikipedia and make the pages more interesting too, but it's against the fundamental policy that Wikipedia produces its own content. If you've ever taken a photograph of a footballer yourself, then you can upload it and licence it for use here; but you can't just copy a photograph someone else has taken from another website and claim it's your own. Arsenal players list[edit]
I gave my reasons at Talk:List of Arsenal F.C. players - the players list says at the top that it is meant to be only for players who have played over 100 matches (with a few very rare exceptions, for exceptionally notable players). If you want to include every first team squad player then by rights you should include every player that has ever played for Arsenal as well. Qwghlm 18:31, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Furthermore - Reyes is probably OK for inclusion on that list in a short while (he is currently on 92 matches), Fabregas is a bit further behind on 50-something matches. I know they are notable right now, but the aim of the list is to be a historical record, not a current one; that's why I use number of appearances as it's a fair comparison between different times. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]
Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section.
