Librarius erectus (Cambridge University)[edit]

Reverting is fine - but it was a genuine comment at teh time and I think it is rather good.

Best wishes

Vandalism[edit]

I did not leave Vandalism. Please let me know what actions on my part suggested vandalism and I will change the method of my updates.

But to be clear, nothing I changed or added should be considered inaccurate.

I can be contacted directly if you would like to discuss. My name is Pete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.251.211.5 (talkcontribs) 19:19, 25 October 2006

I appreciate the feedback. I also understand the need to monitor multipel edits. FYI, I will begin using the Sandbox. I can see how multiple edits to an entry over short period would look suspicious.
Thanks for the quick response.

abstract data type (ADT) error?[edit]

I tried to make an edit to correct your page about abstract data types. You list "linked list" and "binary search tree" as abstract data types, and I removed them from the list because I believe they should not be included. I was not attempting to vandalize the entry or "experiment" as you said in your message to me.

An abstract data type should not specify an implementation; therefore a linked list is certainly NOT an ADT. A list, also written in the page, IS an ADT. But not a linked list, no more than an array list.

For the same reason, a binary search tree is not an ADT. Binary search trees are, like linked lists, particular data structures and not implementation-independent. A binary search tree can be *USED* to implement an ADT such as a set or map. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 23:54, 26 October 2006 67.183.30.43 (talkcontribs) .

Gorillas[edit]

Hi, please see the discussions page. i'm trying to reach a compromise here. IMHO, it is not acceptable to have the US and not UK conversions. Either both or neither - i don't actually care which. We are getting into a situation where this constant editting and reversion is silly. can't we come to an agreement?

Cheers Fred --Yaf201 12:51, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bill,

Thanks for joining the mediation. I think by adding yourself as an interested party you need to sign under the "agree" bit. As I understand it that agreement is to take part in the mediation not signifying that we have agreed an outcome.

Holmdel High School[edit]

Hello, I removed the line about the bio competition because I am actually the one which the competition refers to, and I would rather not have a link that points to a page with my name and picture displayed on it. I've checked to see other people who have won the same award, and their school's pages do not refer to their individual accomplishments. The information was actually placed on the page as a joke, and now I'm trying to remove it as a matter of personal privacy. Hi Bill,

Unfortunately, the administrator rollback tool marks all edits as minor (presumably because they restore an existing version of an article, with no change). Thanks for adding the warning. Often I do, but I didn't that time. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 03:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your recent posting of an anonymous editor to Administrators intervention against vandalism. In the future though, when reporting IP addressed to WP:AIV, please make sure that they have had a final warning in the recent past. Due to the nature of IP addresses, spans of time between edits may indicate different users. Being it is possible that the currently vandalizing user did not get a true final warning they are often not be blocked. To remedy this, please make an effort to ensure that all vandals reported to WP:AIV have an appropriate, and recent, final warning. The most common final warnings are {{test4}} or {{bv}}. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to ask me on my user talk page. Thanks again!-- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 14:58, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrp103, the Joseph Smith, Jr. page represents a historically inaccurate and should be reviewed by an expert on the subject. Many statements in the article are embellished for a reason I can only presume is to elevate the status of Joseph Smith Jr. as more than human – perhaps a prophet to the Mormon cult. As wikipedia is to keep a neutral and encyclopedic approach to all articles, I feel this article violates those two most basic ideas and is incorporating a cultic bias into the text. As a wikipedian, I am truly embarrassed that wikipedia entertains such enormous allegations without question. --156.56.8.165 05:02, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This page sites the book of mormon as a factual source of information. Siting a book written by not only a biased source, but by the man the page is about is impossible to be NPOV. You should not allow the book of mormon to be sited in the page of the author. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 156.56.8.165 (talkcontribs) 19:11, 20 February 2007.

Happy to be here![edit]

Thanks very much for your warm welcome, Bill. I've flown under the radar thus far, I guess; haven't done any major rewrites, although I've fixed a couple of instances of vandalism I've found. I don't devote much time to Wikipedia, but I'm an editor by trade, so when I see something that needs to be edited, it's hard not to resist the impulse. (I sometimes have to restrain myself from editing menus in restaurants.)

I see you are a Cheryl Wheeler fan. My wife and I like her work; we saw her live with Christine Lavin in one of the "Bitchin Babes" tours a while back. Among that group of singer/songwriters, we're also fans of John Gorka.

Templates for LDS vandals[edit]

Bill, I've been around Wikipedia quite a long time and have reverted plenty of vandals on LDS articles. When I think the editors have some potential for becoming responsible editors, I contact them with a personal message and encouragement. I avoid templates, of almost all types, on principal, as I find them personally offensive, abrupt and impersonal. Thanks for your interest. WBardwin 08:55, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Me too, I am still figuring it out, thanks. I typically only revert users who are not logged in. Is it tpyical to give warnings to IP's (even if they are dynamic)? Also, is it worth giving warnings to IP's that have long lists of warnings already? Thanks. --User:GlobalFlop

DO NOT REMOVE DEBATE FORUMS[edit]

Nothing that was added to the discussion regarding Mormonism & Christianity violated Wikepedia’s policy. The article was written under the appropriate category and shared an alternative theological view. Wikepedia is not designed to be your personal avenue for evangelizing the teachings of the LDS Church. Therefore, please do not remove future postings regardless of your bias - I didn't. Show your knowledge by adding to the discussion, not covering it up. Let others read both sides of the proposal as intended by Wikepedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mmirarchi (talkcontribs) 19:17, 3 May 2007.

Joseph Smith[edit]

It is a known fact and a matter of public record that Joseph Smith practiced polygamy. Saying so is not POV. Vidor 06:24, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There aren't different versions of the truth. There's only one. Smith was a polygamist. See Fawn Brodie's book. NPOV does not mean "change or ignore facts one finds unpleasant". I'm not going to pick a fight over this, but the article would be better if it did not obscure Smith's history with weasel words. Vidor 06:50, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding my edit on Final Fantasy (series)[edit]

I originally made an edit to remove what I believed to be false information - that Final Fantasy XI was the first in the series to feature a fully rotating camera. However, I decided that since I could not immediately verify that I was correct, I should not have made the edit. Consequently, I re-edited the entry to restore its original text. The point being, I may have acted rashly, but I quickly corrected my possible mistake, and I do not believe that my actions warranted any sort of reprimand - even one as mild as I received. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.47.33.85 (talk) 05:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I saw you reverted my edit (changing from pre to source tags &emdash; in an attempt to help, by adding syntax highlighting). I'm just curious as to why -- are these now deprecated? Or is it simply because the syntax highlighting is ugly (in which case I think I agree!)? I ask simply because I don't want to repeat a mistake in future.
