The Rings of Power[edit]

Greetings. Needless to say, the talk page over at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is pretty chaotic. So, if it would be easier to have a civil conversation apart from all of the craziness, then we can either do so here or maybe start a new section heading. People have resumed numerous resolved discussions relating to the same general ideas, so it has been hard to keep track of. Seeing as you seem to be quite the Tolkien scholar, I wanted to reach out and say that I value your opinion. I really do. However, I also find it extremely important that we, as Wikipedia editors, follow the guidelines put into place on this great encyclopedic project. That means that all of us, myself included, have to put aside our personal biases and opinions and try to record the necessary, applicable truths of the situation. I feel that we have tried to do that on this Rings of Power article, though I understand that many have personal criticisms of the show.

I must admit that I responded to some of your critiques with an element of hostility, mostly because I have had the same series of conversations over and over again with editors and IP addresses who want to make changes to the article, but do not go about things in the proper way. I hope there is room for positive collaboration in the near future. In the meantime, I wanted to provide a few links that effectively summarize many of the decisions for the article (WP:OR, WP:SYNTH, WP:FORUM, WP:UGC, WP:RS, WP:UNDUE, WP:PRIMARY). If you want to get into the weeds of specific arguments, I am happy to do that, but please recognize that my overall purpose is to follow these and other guidelines when actually editing articles. Good day. TNstingray (talk) 12:05, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the measured correspondence and am happy to engage in civil discussion with you. I am indeed a scholar in my day job so you can rest assured I am capable of navigating a difference of opinion in a professional way. That said, I do have a busy 2 days coming up with work so I might not have time to see this conversation through until Sunday. Just know I am not ignoring you if I take awhile to respond to things.
It gives me great hope to see the level of maturity you just demonstrated with this message. Thank you. XwhereswhatX (talk) 15:22, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. I have your talk page added to my watchlist so I should catch whenever you have time to respond. I'm a full-time student, so I empathize with the business. As a side note, I recently discovered the page Peter Jackson's interpretation of The Lord of the Rings, which does specifically outline differences between the books and his films. Maybe, some of this discussion eventually would be better suited for an entirely separate article, though either way sourcing should be a main concern. Just thought I would float a random idea. Either way, after dealing with true vandals and trolls for so long, I look forward to a professional conversation. TNstingray (talk) 15:40, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to suggest a separate page dedicated to the showrunners' interpretation versus the books too. There is easily enough content there to stand alone imo.
It might be appropriate to condense the marketing section in this article to just cover the dates that trailers/teasers were released as well as the different promotional events that were held (e.g. comic con, London event, etc.). Any and all opinions from the cast, marketing team, or other media outlets probably belongs in the separate article. Else we will back at square one with this article not coming off as balanced enough.
Thoughts? XwhereswhatX (talk) 01:07, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
At the moment, I feel like waiting (WP:NORUSH) until all of the episodes from season one have been released to ensure we have enough reliable sourcing and have a feel for the sum total of content relating to the Rings of Power. It would still be chaotic at the moment with all of this information coming in weekly and the sheer amount of people flocking to the main Rings of Power page as is. But I am seriously considering this as an article, as long as we can ensure that both sides are fairly presented and it is not just the two of us (and others) doing original research in article space (though I'm sure we will get into much of that here as we discuss and marinate ideas).
