No good Boston Propagandist. Is that the only way to promote your city, by lying?

[edit]

Thanks. I am still waiting for that New England revert.........

[edit]

Ah, thanks for that revert. I suspect I know who that was that vandalised. :-) --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 21:26, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just came froma New England road trip today. I went through Providence first, then onto Boston. In Providence(which is filthy along with most of the state of RI), they spoke so differently, I forgot about that. That is something unites Boston and Eastern NE together. We in CT do not speak that crazy speech. Boston is a nice city but I felt nothing of any connection. On the way back, I was in a town called North(?) Stonington, CT. I did not know that I was in CT at the time, until I saw the NY Post and the Daily News. I also saw Yankees gear for sale at a Mobil station. Now this town is far away from NY, but they had those.

I am disconsolate

[edit]

B/c of the rainout tonight, starters were pushed back. Instead of the awesome combo of Unit and awful Wakefield, I will get the much less sexy Wright and Schilling. Wright is schedule to begin sucking in the top of the second, and Schilling's feet will bleed all over Steinbrenner's grass and give everybody AIDS. Boring..... - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 01:45, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And you need archive. Werdnabot only takes that which has two timestamps. Most things don't. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 01:46, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yesterday on Yankee radio: "Swing and a fly ball to deep center... Cabrera and Damon going back, at the wall, CABRERA LEAPS........ (15 second pause, deafening crowd noise) ....DOES HE HAVE IT??? ..... HE'S GOT IT! MELKY CABRERA TOOK A HOME... RUN... AWAY... FROM MANNY! THE MELKY WAY!! GOT MELK??" hehehe - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 02:12, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Pauley's real good btw. Sox are what the Yanks were in the mid 90's in terms of minor league things. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 02:16, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Byung-Hyun Kim! Choke monkey! Haha!! Used to love it when that dude pitched in Yankee stadium for the Sox. Would yell at him to sit on the mound and cry again. I also make sure to yell once a game to Damon, "Go back to Boston!" and to Giambi, "Teeee-Nooooo...." I hated it when they traded my favorite, Tino, to StL for the Intestinal Parasite - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 02:56, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, he blew 2 games in a row. Almost cost Arizona the world series, though he did close game 7. After he blew the second one, he sat on the mound and cried. When I stopped jumping for joy at that time, I predicted that he would that evening commit ritual suicide, despite not being Japanese. The single most ridiculous player to Yankee fans. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 03:00, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, of course he is Korean. Today I learned that in 2001 in an exhibition game Randy Johnson killed a pigeon with a pitch. Pigeon flew in front the batter as the pitch was delivered. See here. Amazing, no? Good night. Wife is calling me into bed. Bye. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 03:05, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Yanksox

[edit]

Hey,

Thank you for the information you provided in relation to publishing my article on wiki. I read the info I am not sure what would be the best move so this will be published. The fact of the matter is that this is my material and i have no problem publishing it here and letting other people reading it and citing it. it will be to the general public. so i am not sure what i need to provide in order for this publication to go through. Sorry if i am asking some basic questions the wiki rules are very elaborate and some times hard to understand to an extent.

Thanks for all your help

Beat to the punch?

I just noticed that you created Dorita&curid=5474133 with the VandalProof tag. Did some admin beat you to deleting teh page just as you hit "save page," which led to the article being recreated? If so that is a bug and should be fixed... Hbdragon88 04:53, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: People's Park

[edit]

Can you be more specific, please, as to why you think the first two paragraphs of "Bloody Thursday" are so bad? I've edited these two paragraphs extensively and can see no way to communicate what happened without mentioning the politics of the participants. The prime mover for what happened on May 15, 1969, was President Reagan, who acted in ways that can only be understood in the context of his highly charged political rhetoric. I included a couple of quotes from him, one specifically related to the incident, in an attempt to clarify his reasons for acting as he did. Other quotes (one from Mike Delacour, the other from Dan Siegal)are included in an attempt to clarify their motives as well.

The article may, at times, appear to lack NPOV because of this highly charged political rhetoric, but actually it is just descriptive. Would welcome any suggestions for improvement.Founders4 08:13, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvios

[edit]

When doing newpages patrol, it would be good if when you think a page is a copyvio you tagged it with {{db-copyvio|url=http://www.copyviosRUs.com}} rather than the {{copyvio}} tag, since brand new copyvios can be speedied, and it's good to get them before they get picked up by the google bots. People's Park edit

[edit]

Hi Yanksox,

I edited the "Bloody Thursday" section. Hope it looks better to you.

Toned down the first paragraph by eliminating "transform a neighborhood eyesore into a place of beauty" and substituting "improve the neighborhood." Also mentioned mild objections to the expropriation of University property, which really were hardly in evidence. Don't think this is just because of my student status at the time. The plain fact is that all sorts of people, even school administrators, thought the park was a good idea. The margin of approval among students (12,719 to 2,175) was mirrored among Berkeley professors.

Extensively reworked the second paragraph to better reflect Reagan's critical attitude towards Berkeley administrators. Also brought in some context for those who might be unfamiliar with the attitudes of mainstream mid-1960's Californians, who tended to be pretty conservative.

Changed a few other things too. Had described Meese as "harsh"--changed that to "firm."

Please let me know what you think. Founders4 06:49, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About Notability...

[edit]

Hey YankSox, I noticed you put my article on Simon Carless into the "Wikipedia Articles that need their Importance Explained" category. while this is something i clearly forgot to do when writing the page, which tags do i place when i edit the article?

Please be careful. You prodded a well written, apparently non-copyvio article w/in two minutes of creation. Even if you find nothing on Google to confirm, at least slap a {{unreferenced}} on it and watch it. Give it a day or two or three - and prod it then if you still think it's crap. I don't think it's crap - I think this is a copyvio from someplace, but I cannot find it online, so we're keeping it I think. If he comes up with references, and even if not, I think this would be kept, in any event. I think you should apologize to the guy for WP:BITE-ing him, seriously. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 14:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio after all. Found it after author explained the source. My instinct served me well. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 14:48, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No need to apologise - I'm getting worse grief from others on my first contribution here!

Thanks for pointing out the "vanity" clause - I have removed everything I've edited on this subject as this site clearly doesn't want information from the horses mouth! Perhaps you may like to add a little more on the Orchestra as despiute being its Chairman, I am being accused of using copyright material! (incorrectly I would add).

Glad you enjoy the SSO enough to have started an entry though - thanks!

Subst

[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. --Cyde↔Weys 17:42, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think I disagree with your removal of the sentence describing Finola's other interests. As the article is a biography, I personally don't feel it's excessive to include a person's interests aside from what makes them notable, especially when the person in question is a child. I'm not going to revert your edit without consensus, but I would like to. Saying that Finola plays piano, in my view, is not that different from the sentence "Shaquille O'Neal, whose mother is a Baptist and stepfather a Muslim, has not formally announced affiliation with a specific faith; however, he had at one time been linked to Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam." This fact doesn't matter as far as his career is concerned, but it's something that may be important to understanding the person in question. But hey, that's just one man's opinion. -- Kicking222 15:32, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Another random example: "Jon Stewart was a member of the school's band as a French horn player..." I know that most bios do not contain facts such as these, but some do; since there is no particular precedent about when an article should or should not contain unrelated info, I don't see any reason why this one can't. -- Kicking222 15:40, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Don't wory about your "rambling"- it wasn't rambling at all, and I completely understand what you mean. In fact, when you put it that way, I agree with you. I see why you removed the info, and I absolutely cannot refute any of your reasoning. As far as the AfD discussion, your vote was never in question, as I'm sure someone as experienced as you would never be swayed one way or the other by inclusion (or lack thereof) of interests/trivia. -- Kicking222 16:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging

[edit]

Hi Yanksox,

Just so you know, you cannot tag an image with a speedy deletion rationale "A8" tag, as A8 applies only to articles. Also, it seems quite possible, given the coincidence in usernames, that the uploader is the owner of the website from which the image comes. If in doubt, query him, for he has tagged the image appropriately with that rationale. It isn't a copyvio when he gives it to us. Best wishes, Xoloz 16:51, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking that the Milk allergy page needed some work when you added the expert tag. I have a severe anaphylactic allergy to milk and a lot of information from FAAN (Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network) about milk allergies. I was also thinking of adding a section with differences between lactose intolerance and milk allergy. I also noticed that food intolerance redirects to food allergy, so I was going to write a food intolerance article. Since they are very different conditions, I thought it was a bit misleading for it to redirect to food allergy. I'd appreciate if you replyed with your thoughts. jf 17:22, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes, but whenever you added the tag, I became excited and thought of more things that needed fixing. Just curious what you thought. jf 17:29, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the fact that he's really an academic dean and that notability doesn't seem to exist. Futhermore, I can't find anything here that shows notability or worthiness of mention. Maybe it's more of an issue involving WP:NOT, but it appears according to bio, he's not notable. Yanksox (talk) 03:38, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've notified the creator of the article and asked for their thoughts. Yanksox (talk) 03:41, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Y'know, there's even a proposal working in WP:WSS/P to make a separate stub type for university administrators, which are currently crowding {{academic-bio-stub}}. That means there are a lot of them here. Does this particularly bother you - or just the fact that's he's provost, cuz if it's the latter, this is eith AfD or cleanup. - CrazyRussian talk/email 03:44, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To be frank, I believe the issue lies in the fact that he's a provost. I can't see the notability for that. If you believe removing the prod is the best decision, then I will respect that and ponder taking it to AfD. Yanksox (talk) 03:47, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
