Jose Maria Marfori Asuncion (March 28, 1939 – July 19, 2003) better known for his stage-name Vic Vargas was a Filipino film actor and judoka.

Early life and beginning career

Vic Vargas was born on March 28, 1939. Vargas was a three-time Philippine judo champion at the age of 17.

Later career

He starred in well over 60 films between the late 1950s and early 1960s to 2002. Due to his swarthy looks he was often typecast in action and sexy comedy films. In the mid-‘70s, he was an on and offcam pair with 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz. They starred in Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa, which started the so-called wet-and-wild look.

Death

He died on July 19, 2003 from a stroke at the age of 64.
