Vivid TV is a Canadian French language Category B pay TV adult entertainment television channel consisting of primarily softcore adult content in the form of films, documentaries, reality shows, and variety shows, among others, between 6:00am to 11:00pm EST, while hardcore content, primarily from Vivid Entertainment, fills the remainder of the schedule.[1] The channel is owned by Sex-Shop Television Inc., a division of IDI.

History

In December 2007, Sex-Shop Television Inc. was granted approval by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to launch Vanessa, described as "a national French-language Category 2 pay television programming service devoted to the themes of sex appeal, sensuality, eroticism and sexuality."[2]

Vanessa launched on October 28, 2010 at 10pm in standard definition.[3] The channel was expected to launch a high definition feed in October 2010 and launch an English language counterpart in 2011 under the same name, however, neither channel was launched as planned.[3] On November 4, 2010, Bell TV added the channel to its lineup, giving the channel national distribution.

In October 2012, Sex-Shop Television received permission from the CRTC to convert Vanessa into a bilingual service (with programming subtitled in English for French programming, and vice versa); the company cited difficulties obtaining carriage for the dedicated English version as reasoning for the changes.[4] Despite this, the English version still launched as planned.

The channel began broadcasting in high-definition (HD) in 2014 when a separate HD feed was launched on Telus' Optik TV in Quebec.

In September 2014, Sex-Shop Television reached a licensing deal with the American adult entertainment company Vivid Entertainment, which saw both versions of Vanessa re-brand as VividTV on October 28, 2014, and allow the network access to its productions.[5]
