WXBC Bard College Radio is a student-run, freeform, uncensored radio station, broadcasting out of Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and is Bard College's only official radio station. Through a continuous live stream, the station pulls its modest listenership from its online broadcast, which can be accessed through the station's web page.
WXBC was founded in 1947 as a Senior Project and has gone through many incarnations since. The current studio space, completed in 2004, is located in the basement of Manor House, an on-campus residence hall near the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, a Frank Gehry-designed concert hall on the north end of Bard's campus.
WXBC broadcasts seven days a week, 24 hours a day during the academic year. All shows are run by students and are typically one to two hours long. Initially, the station broadcast from a 5-watt transmitter, on 540 AM frequency and currently broadcasts through a continuous live stream and has moved entirely online. Listeners can listen using iTunes, Winamp, Audion, MusicMatch Jukebox, and a variety of other players.[1]
In 2006, WXBC was nominated for "Station of the Year" and "Biggest Improvement" in the CMJ College Radio Awards.[2]
