Common Grackle[edit]

Original - Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) perched on a wood slab in a backyard in Toronto, Canada. A "permanent" resident in its range (the bird doesn't migrate), the bird nests in colonies with other types of its species.
Reason
High res, good amount of EV, and for high detail. Another beautiful bird with that black plumage which has the nice gleam to it.

  • Weak Oppose There is a fair amount of noise in the belly, and the tail is somewhat out of focus. I'm also having issues with the background, and would prefer a larger picture. SpencerT♦C 01:33, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Spencer, this issue you have with noise has got to stop here. There is almost no noise to speak of in this image. All images have some 'noise', though. Its a fact of photography with current technology. Sometimes it is simply the texture of the object, too. This image is well within the bounds of realistic noise levels. • I agree, what magnification are you using to look for this noise? There is nothing visible at 100% and that's as far as you should be going to judge it. Mfield (talk) 10:03, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • I'm viewing it 100%. Now looking at it closer, I suppose some of that is texture. Sorry, SpencerT♦C 01:39, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Unfortunate background, crop too tight (as usual, with mdf photos) -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 08:14, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • weak support I think the crop is okay. The detail is a wee bit soft and the BG is less than ideal, but acceptable. Matt Deres (talk) 16:51, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
