TV golf score table

[edit]

I don't follow golf, but I put on a few minutes of the Masters tournament. A score table like this was displayed onscreen:

1 Jones −17 17
2 Smith −13 14
3 Robinson −12 17
4 Jefferson −11 13
Otherson −11 68

Obviously the first column shows the player's current ranking in the standards, the second shows their name, and the third is their score in relation to par. But what's the fourth column, and with one or two of the numbers way different from the others? And why is one person shown without a ranking? --184.147.181.129 (talk) 03:14, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The first four show what hole a player has completed so Smith is 13 under through the 14th hole. Then when a player has finished the 18th the number in the 4th column changes to their total strokes for the entire round. Thus Otherson shot a 68 and - since Augusta is par 72 for 18 holes - he shot 4 under for the round and is 11 under for the tournament. It is a bit confusing so I hope this helps. Oops I forgot to mention that since Jefferson and Otherson are both at -11 they are tied for fourth. To make it a bit more confusing if your table added a 6th player who was -10 the first column would show them as being in 6th place since two players are tied for fourth and fifth. Got it, thanks. By the way, if it had shown a player who was 6th, it would've been less confusing. --184.147.181.129 (talk) 21:24, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
