Hovering over link to see a preview of the linked page doesn't work on Safari[edit]

Just letting the technologists know that the amazing new feature of hovering producing a preview of the linked page does not work on Safari... Are you talking about seeing a preview of another Wikipedia article, when you hover over an internal Wikipedia link? If so, that is not a new feature. It can be enabled or disabled in preferences (under Gadgets, Navigation popups). If you're talking about hovering producing a preview of an external link, I wasn't aware of that feature. --Viennese Waltz 08:57, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For clarity, Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups is similar to but different from Meta:Page Previews#Key differences from Navigation Popups. Page Previews while in development for a while, can be consider a relatively new feature since it was only enabled by default (for readers not logged in and new accounts) on the English wikipedia since April 2018. Cheetaiean note that page previews is disabled by default for logged in editors where the account was created before 10 July 2018 which seems to apply to your account. So too is navigation popups (well at any time of creation). If you are viewing wikipedia logged in on Safari and have not changed your account settings you should expect a difference from what you see when you are using any browser without being logged in. I don't see any mention of Page Previews not working on Safari in either the meta page or this blog post [1] and Safari is a major enough browser that I'm doubtful it would fail to mention such a major shortcoming. So if you're using a recent version of Safari and have been having this issue for more than a few weeks, and it's not because you're using Safari logged in and have not enabled the feature it's, probably something other than a browser support issue. Have you fooled around with your Javascript settings or installed a extension to Safari that limits Javascript? Nil Einne (talk) 09:53, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, it is because I was logged in. Activating the navigation pop-up feature however gives a different pop-up than the default one non-users have Cheetaiean

In case there is still confusion, the navigation pop-up feature is intentionally different. If you want the same feature that logged out editors get, you will need to make sure "Page previews (get quick previews of a topic while reading a page):" under "Reading settings" under "Appearance" is enabled. And that "Navigation popups" in gadgets is disabled (and any other feature which will interfere with Page previews). P.S. seems my external link to the blog was broken too. Whoops! I wasn't aware of page previews until this thread, and it seems way inferior to navigation popups to me. The big disadvantage is that it only seems to work for mainspace articles, not for other types of links such as userpages and page histories. Is pop culture every single movie, music etc that came out in each year or is it what captures the attention of the decades 2000s, 1990s etc?
