Musicians like "Clay Calloway" in Sing 2?[edit]

Are there any Rock/Pop musicians in the Rock and Roll era (post 1950ish) like Clay Calloway in Sing 2 that walked away from the Music Industry due to the death of a spouse/long time partner for more than a decade? Naraht (talk) 20:10, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Many musicians walk away from the industry, but it isn't necessarily because of the death of a partner. It is usually because the reality of being a star turns out to be very different from their expectation. Then, there could be coincidence. For example, you could claim that John Woloschuk quit the music industry after his beloved dog died. But, he stated that was already fed up and looking for an exit. The more common story is that a musician finds solace in music. After Tammi Terrell died, Marvin Gaye threw himself into music, reinventing his sound completely. Also, it may not be truly an exit from the industry, but more of a lack of interest from others. When Kurt Cobain died, there wasn't an expectation that the other members of Nirvana would do much. Sure, they would try to continue with something, but the expectations were low. In that situation, some musicians blossom. (I chose Nirvana here because they did do well later, and I didn't want to pick on musicians who struggled on their own.) Some keep trying and don't get anywhere. So, it isn't that they quit the industry. It is more that the industry quits on them. Picking all these situations apart is difficult and requires a lot of speculation rather than clear fact. 97.82.165.112 (talk) 00:19, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Especially when the subject is a cartoon character. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:01, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that movie with my five year old granddaughter. Maybe I can ask her. Cullen328 (talk) 21:18, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OP:I'm *quite* aware Clay Calloway is a cartoon character, I'm trying to figure out if the story is a take on someone in real life. (And perhaps the question should have gone over in RD:Entertainment...)Naraht (talk) 16:26, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The character's name is based on Cab Calloway. He didn't quit the music business. However, a character he played in The Blues Brothers hadn't performed in years before filling in for the big show near the end of the movie. 97.82.165.112 (talk) 19:23, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
