Not currently in existence (AFAICS); in line with other Africa-gov-stub templates. Regards, --Goldsztajn (talk) 03:01, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Proposal for a "Chinese-phil-stub" template

Chinese philosophy is much broader than Taoism, Confucianism, & Neo-Confucianism; therefore it makes sense to create a "Chinese-phil-stub" template corresponding to the "Chinese philosophy stubs" category and including its subcategories. This new template would mark articles where Taoist/Confucian/Neo-Confucian templates are not applicable but could also be helpful where they are all applicable by reducing the need for multiple templates to be used on the same page.
There's no reason why "Category:Chinese philosophy stubs" should be marked by the NeoConfucianism-stub template; "Neo-Confucianism stubs" would be better organised as a subcategory of "Confucianism stubs" (just as Category:Neo-Confucianism is a subcategory of Category:Confucianism) with a new "Chinese-phil-stub" template marking the broader "Category:Chinese philosophy stubs" as a whole.
"Category:Chinese philosophy stubs" should itself be recategorised under "China stubs", not "Chinese history stubs" and "Chinese literature stubs" which neglect Chinese philosophy articles which are neither literature nor merely historical.
Some articles which could be (better) marked by a new "Chinese-phil-stub" template: Si (philosophy), Xin (philosophy), Qing (philosophy), Zhi, Wen and wu, Great Unity, One Divides into Two, Antagonistic contradiction, Seek truth from facts, Wonderism, School of Naturalists, School of Names, Yongjia School, Syncretism (Chinese philosophy). - Greetings, and thanks for the suggestion. I see that the Category:Chinese philosophy stubs is a parent category with no template, although {{NeoConfucianism-stub}} feeds into it. I can't address the issue of where the stub cat should fall in the hierarchy of categories, but (I say cautiously) if a stub article does not fall under one of the sub-cats (Taoism stubs, Confucianism stubs) and is not about another specific Chinese belief system, there seems to be no reason why there should be a "catch-all" template such as {{China-philo-stub}}. That said, how many stub articles would qualify for the generic stub type? Her Pegship (?) 18:38, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. Did you mean to say "no reason why there shouldn't"?
- I think all the articles I listed earlier qualify. In addition, also Fa (philosophy), State consequentialism, School of Diplomacy, Yangism, Nine Schools of Thought, and Huoheian. That's 20, but there are possibly others; how many are needed to qualify? "Category:China religion stubs" has just two (not counting subcats), and they could both arguably be recategorised as Chinese philosophy stubs instead.
- Some of the ones I listed earlier do qualify for existing templates but require multiple stub templates to cover the relevance of the articles, whereas they could be more simply covered by a single general template (as I noted earlier). A significant issue is that many topics and concepts Chinese philosophy do not exclusively fall within the domain of either Daoism or Confucianism or Buddhism but are shared across Chinese philosophy, influencing all three. For example, "xin" is the Chinese philosophical concept of the "mind"; it belongs to neo-Confucianism (under which it is presently marked) about as much as the concept of "nous" belongs exclusively to Christian philosophy. Further complications arise from historical schools of thought like Mohism and Legalism, which similarly exchanged concepts with other schools but also represented independent schools of thought in their own right. Similar complications arise on the other end of history. A related problem is that while some of these concepts may fall within the criteria of "about another specific Chinese belief system", these other systems may themselves lack specific stub templates. eg. There are no stub templates specifically for "Mohism", "Legalism". The only sensible thing to do would be to mark them as general "Chinese philosophy stubs", but that doesn't exist yet either.Scyrme (talk) 21:11, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes. Sorry! <facepalm> Her Pegship (?) 16:55, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- Generally, there should be at least 60 articles that qualify as a "foo-stub" before a category or template should be formed. If this realm is part of a WikiProject (such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Philosophy, I think 30 is an acceptable quantity, under stub guidelines. I support creation of a {{China-philo-stub}} as long as someone knowledgeable can re-sort the category accordingly. Her Pegship (?) 16:55, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'm confident that there are at least 30 stubs that qualify and that they fall within the domain of the "Eastern Philosophy Task Force" of WikiProject Philosophy. Although I'm no expert, I'm familiar enough with this area to sort the stubs; I just need the template so I can get started. Scyrme (talk) 02:36, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Westerns (genre) television stubs category

There is currently a Category:Television stubs category, and several sub categories specific to various television genres, but there is no sub category for television Westerns (genre). It would be helpful to Wikipedia:WikiProject Westerns to have a genre specific television category for maintenance (specifically "Category:Western (genre) television stubs"). The Westerns project crosses over novels, film, television, and radio in the genre and there are already similar stub categories specific to the genre for Category:Western (genre) novel stubs and Category:Western (genre) film stubs. A similar stub category such as "Category:Western (genre) television stubs" would be a big help to the Westerns project. ButlerBlog (talk) 16:12, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
