FIRST AND FOREMOST

[edit]

Is ANYONE Interested in participating in THIS EVENT?

We are definitely getting a late start. I just found out about the WTA/2013 Project. Upon checking for a West Lafayette organized event, I found none. Knowing we have much to offer and no doubt images are needed to fill-out current and future Wikipedia entries, I would really like to see West Lafayette participate this year and begin an annual tradition of entries. So, yes, we are late to the gate, but there is still plenty of time to participate in the Annual Event.

What is the Wikipedia Takes America/2013 Project? Wikipedia Takes America is a campaign held each September to organize Wikipedia Takes Your City photo scavenger hunts across the United States, to coincide with the Wiki Loves Monuments photography contest in the United States and throughout the world.

BASICS of the Wikipedia Takes Your City Photo Scavenger Hunt

  • Wikipedia Takes Your City is a one-day wiki scavenger hunt and free content photography contest conducted in a particular locale, where participants compete to take photographs of as many local sights as possible for Wikipedia articles where they are needed.
  • A dedicated tool for facilitating Wikipedia Takes Your City events has been developed on the toolserver: Wikimedia Photo Scavenger Hunts. Additional instructions can be found there.

The 2013 Wikipedia Takes America in WEST LAFAYETTE, IN

[edit]

DATE & START TIME

  • Wikipedia offerd, as a defualt, the suggested time of 12 noon on Saturday September 21, but, I would like to hear other suggestions as well. I am not available for Saturday shoots and would like to participate as a photographer. However, I am more interested in getting this Project on the ledger as an annual event for West Lafayette, than being in the middle of it myself. This is about WEST LAFAYETTE and not about the organizer.
  • Another option would be to open the window of shooting time to a period of X-number of days BEFORE and/or AFTER a set Primary Garthering Day. '

STARTING POINT

Pick a starting point where an organized group of people who are going to photographically record WEST LAFAYETTE for the Wikipedia Takes America/2013 Project.
  • There are a number of places in West Lafayette that are conducive to such a recording.
  • Library, Businesses Purdue, Development, Historic Landmark, Natural Landmark, etc.
  • Including Lafayette, either as a joint participant in this activity or as a co-participant (they do their own independent event) would be a good addition to the effort.

TO GATHER POST or NOT TO GATHER, this is the question ??

[edit]
An OPTION Wikipedia floats for the end of this event, is a POST SHOOT GATHERING. This would/could be an opportunity for a LOCAL ESTABLISHMENT to open it's doors to the participants of the WTA:WL 2013, for an After The Shoot.
  • This opportunity offers another 'shoot opportunity' and exposure for the establishment.

Potential photo targets

[edit]

Please see the relevant parts of the Tippecanoe County Interim Report for a list of possible places to photograph. Printed copies of this book can probably be found in the Indiana Room at the public library in Lafayette and may also be available through Purdue Libraries.
