Reboot of Article Alerts

After several months of inactivity, a new bot has been coded to replace User:ArticleAlertbot. See the bot request for approval for details. As this represent a total reboot of the project, all previous discussions have been archived under "ArticleAlertbot (old bot)" list to the right. Pluses instead of underscores

  Bug fixed

Link(s): diff clicking edit, clicking hist

Comments: The (talk · edit · hist) ONLY work for the following pages linked to from WP:USRD/AA, the rest do not work properly.

On the pages that are not working, the links to talk work fine however the edit and hist buttons put plus signs instead of underscores between words, which breaks the link. All links on the page except for the ones noted above are doing this.

This also is happening on: WP:CRWP/AA (the one and only link), WP:WASH/AA (all), and WP:HWY/AA (the one and only link). --Admrboltz (talk) 23:49, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for report. Apparently {{fullurl: ...}} parser function does not respect spaces. I'll add manual find-replace of " " to "_". That should fix it. Will leave this as a new bug until next run. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 11:50, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Actually it was me including custom urlencode method for the page name that fullurl didn't need as it does its own thing. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 14:35, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Seems OK now. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 20:27, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Confirmed -- thanks! --Admrboltz (talk) 20:30, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Moved from Wikipedia_talk:Article_alerts#Help

Firstly thank-you for rebooting article alerts! Secondly it's not really a formal bug report but I'm concerned about whether my project's subscription is working correctly. I'm a member of WP:Spaceflight and we've recently had a major reorganisation and so are going through re-tagging articles with a new banner. As a result I converted our subscription which had been placed on the list to a category one, which is shared by both new and old tagged articles. Note there seem to originally have been two subscriptions with alerts generated on two different pages because the tag had been placed on a subpage of the project during the reorganisation. I removed the duplicate, don't know what effect that would have.

Problem is the only change in our reports was the removal of an article. Project Isinglass (a GAN) was in the alerts until I made the change but now it has been removed despite being in the correct category and having a new banner anyway. Given the sparse nature of our alerts I suspect there may be more pages like this. I realise that it's still early days with the bot but was just wondering if someone could check whether everything is alright with our subscription? Thanks. [1] I'm not sure that there is anything wrong now. May be at the time of bot run MediaWiki hadn't re-rendered the banner template, so it didn't get categorized. There is also a bot bug somewhere but this may not be related. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK
OK, it did not get put there on the main run, so I suspect there's a subtle bug somewhere. I'm going to be looking into this. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 21:11, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I was just about to reply about that, good to know it wasn't just me going mad! ChiZeroOne (talk) 21:31, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

OK, this is a bug and has probably affected other projects as well. The gist is that the banners and categories get retrieved only the first time the page is read, and not on subsequent runs. So removing or adding banners/categories afterwards has no effect. Self-administered trout for this. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 12:19, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

I think I fixed it, but I will leave this open until today's run. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 12:33, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

The article is now posted – Wikipedia:WikiProject Spaceflight/Article alerts (permalink), so I'm marking this fixed. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 09:32, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah it appears fixed now, I'll let you know If I notice any other strange goings on. Thanks. ChiZeroOne (talk) 13:46, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Some AfD and PROD pages not reported

Comments:

Own bug report for record and future ref. AfD and PROD pages not reported if they happen to be indexed past 500 entries in their category. Fixed and now the reports should contain roughly 1/3-1/5 more entries. Self-administered trout.

WHACK!
