Please post some sample CSV data that you are using. And also the settings file. That will help me with the troubleshooting. Ganeshk (talk) 16:04, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is OK now, may be internet connection problems. Thanks.--Cheers! (talk) 16:51, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great. What's the project that you are using it for? Ganeshk (talk) 17:52, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I use it to create, maintenance articles in vi.wikipedia by bot account. Bot do more than 1 million edits by using this tool. Thank you so much.--Cheers! (talk) 03:02, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear that. You are welcome. Ganeshk (talk) 14:39, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible extract data from a particular web?[edit]

Is it possible extract data from Tamil lexicon( 1924-1936) ?--தகவலுழவன் (talk) 02:29, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is possible to extract the data by increasing the number in the url (p.0.tamillex, p.1.tamillex, p.2.tamillex etc). Someone will need to write a HTML scraper program for it. I am sorry; I don't have time to write that program. Ganeshk (talk) 02:55, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It may be easier to write to the e-mail address, hall@crl.edu and ask them if they can provide the information through a easy download like MS Access. I found the e-mail address on the footer of home page, http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/tamil-lex/. Ganeshk (talk) 03:00, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
thank you. I am trying to get the data. If i achieved, i will inform you.--தகவலுழவன் (talk) 06:15, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

CSVLoader does not function anymore?[edit]

Recently we switched to AWB version 5.5.2.1, and in this version it does seem to me that CSVLoader is not functioning properly. I tried to do a search and replace, but the csv-data were not replaced properly. As a test I tried a simple prepend of a couple of words, but that didn't come through either. Kind regard, Lymantria (talk) 09:38, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Lymantria:: Will check and let you know. Thanks. Ganeshk (talk) 21:58, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Lymantria, +1. For me also not work. XXN (talk) 22:04, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Lymantria:, @XXN:, I am back on Wikipedia after a long break. What exactly is the problem? Can you give me an example? Thanks. Ganeshk (talk) 06:39, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
My problem had to do with redirects and is recognised and thereby solved. If the page name one uses for CSVloader is a redirect, the data are not uploaded. Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 08:07, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Lymantria:, Yes, AWB does process redirects into their target articles and that will cause mismatch between what is loaded and what is listed. I am glad to hear that it was resolved. Ganeshk (talk) 12:25, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Creating lower case entries on Wiktionary[edit]

Hi, is there a way to set the new articles (or "entries" as their called on Wiktionary) to be specifically in lower case? As this is an important distinction on Wikt. (at least for writing systems that differentiate between cases, Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, etc.)

I saw that automatic capitalization was introduced in version 15 (as this is best for Wikipedia) perhaps the version 14 could be made available for download (that seems like the quickest workaround.) (Unless it has serious bugs.) Neitrāls vārds (talk) 11:17, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Neitrāls vārds:, I have now disabled the capitalization on other wikis. I have limited the capitalization only to English Wikipedia. Please download the new version, 1.0.0.18 and test it. Thanks. Ganeshk (talk) 06:37, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Once Neitrāls vārds asked me about the earlier version but i am not able to help him. Thanks indeed for your new version, 1.0.0.18. I tested. well. No auto-capitalization. With a help of my friend, I am trying to built google spreadsheet uploader and i will convey good news about it. This is because of your plug-in experiences.Hearty thanks, brother.--தகவலுழவன் (talk) 03:09, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great news, thanks! I hope to try it out if I'll find time to edit Wiktionary! Neitrāls vārds (talk) 02:13, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Option to create lists[edit]

Dear Author! Could you please explain, what the option "Create lists" does? I was unable to find out any clues =) Sincerely, with many thanks fou your plugin, --Akim Dubrow (talk) 12:45, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Akim Dubrow:, Create lists function helps create bulleted lists from CSV data. For example, if you have a list of cities in a column, firstcol,Chennai^Mumbai^Kolkata, thirdcol. CSVLoader will find that the second column has ^ character and split the column into a bulleted list like this:
  • Chennai
  • Mumbai
  • Kolkata
I had used it to create species lists on genus pages like, Hemimarginula. Ganeshk (talk) 02:12, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Break line in csv[edit]

Hello. How add line-break in csv by wiki-format (without any tags)? In csv a text of page must be in one string. If add in csv a html-tags <p> & <br /> then it includes into code wikipage. I tried add "\n", "#13", but it dont work. --Vladis13 (talk) 23:28, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tried do text with embedded line-breaks into quotes, as write in csv rules and examples. This added only one break into wikipage, even when in csv 2 break. But by wiki-format need 2 breaks for indent paragraph, and when edit the page the break disappears. --Vladis13 (talk) 00:09, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Vladis13:, Try adding ##BR## in the Append/Prepend/Replace text. That will add a line break. Ganeshk (talk) 01:58, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Vladis13:, ##BR## needs to be added to the text and not the CSV file. Ganeshk (talk) 00:32, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I add ##BR## in csv, all working right. Simple string of csv:
pagename, "== title ==##BR##text##BR####BR##text2##BR####BR##==title2==##BR##text"
Doing replace "\n" → "##BR##" with a script or a text editor. --Vladis13 (talk) 04:32, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot get CSVLoader to find and replace properly[edit]

Hello ans sorry if I may seem stupid because I cannot use CSV Loader and AWB the way I want...

I am currently working on a wikia and I used CSV Loader and AWB to create many new pages, and everything was fine. Then I wanted to modify some of these pages and I couldn't use the "find and replace" function of CSV Loader. I read many times Wikipedia:CSVLoader/Find and replace but couldn't find what I did wrong: everytime I tried, in place of the values of my list, the column headers were inserted.

I do not have a very good knowledge of programming and even if I speak English quite fluently, I sometimes get completly lost when it comes to technical things, even if your walkthrough is not too difficult to understand for me.

I explain what I did:

  • I put in options/Find and replace/Normal settings things like Find: "Le " Replace: "Le ##article##" or Find: "de type" Replace: "de type « ##type## »"
  • I created a text file with the Notepad, saved it in UTF-8 format because I am using French accentuated words and in .CSV format. this file is like this:

##article##,##type##,##fromage##,##deplacement##
niveau 15,chute de fromage,6,16
niveau 16,chute de fromage,6,16
niveau 20,chute de fromage,3,12
niveau 21,chute de fromage,5,16
niveau 25,chute de fromage,5,12
[...]

  • I opened it with the CSV Loader plugin, checked "find and replace" and "replace" buttons, put "," as field separator, put "##article##,##type##,##fro##,##dep##" as column headers and left the article text area blank. I clicked OK.
  • Then I started AWB, but I wanted something like "Le niveau 15 est de type « chute de fromage »" I got something like "Le ##article## est de type « ##type## »".

I think that AWB ignores CSV Loader and doesn't let him replace the column header by the values of the list, but I cannot find why...

I hope that someone can help me.

  • I found, "CSV/Find & replace" are difficult function. It can to write in pages "##tages##", but not data from upload file, if add change in "Normal setting" AFTER enable the plugin, see items 4 after 5 in Wikipedia:CSVLoader/Find and replace. Also, check that disable options "skip" in AWB and in plugin settings.
  • Also, if press any button after start plugin, example "diff" or do change in Editbox, then setting on "Normal setting" disappear.
  • Also, after disable plugin in "Normal setting" appear data from last changed page. Therefore, next start plugin can to writing it error data in other pages.
So. this function requires attention and control, and launch bot-mode require caution. --Vladis13 (talk) 16:34, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gathering / writing Categories of birds to a word doc[edit]

Hi! I have a 10K db of Latin / Welsh species names, and I'm trying to collect info such as location from categories on enwiki articles to pump up the db. I did something similar many moons ago using your great tool. Alas, I can't remember where - was it a script perhaps? The categories should be collected in a text file, which I can then use to create the new articles on cywiki using csv/awb. Many thanks! Llywelyn2000 (talk) 16:20, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Llywelyn2000:, that must be some type of script. I don't remember helping you with that one. You can post at WP:BOTREQ and someone can write a script for you. Ganeshk (talk) 05:06, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Script to automate CSVLoader import:[edit]

Is it possible to write a script to generate pages from CSV rows similar to the script to import full-text-file based articles? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tcrimsonk (talkcontribs) 03:26, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ta.wikisource - 2200 PDF books[edit]

To find and fill the parameters of every book (Total 2200 books), I followed your find & replace steps. But i cant find and fill a parameter, for example, City =##2## --> | City = Chennai. I think the regex is wrong. What is the regex for the empty parameterInfo-farmer (talk) 13:57, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Problems[edit]

I followed the instructions, and made a couple of files on enwiki, everything working well. The I wanted to make some new files on wikispecies, made the textfile, saved it, and everythings working well until the step when the files should be changed. I see the que in the bottom left, but after pressing "start" nothing happends, seems the plugin doesnt really change anything. May it be becasue I use the same plugin, and not with another name? Do I need different plugins for different wikis? Dan Koehl (talk) 23:20, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Dan Koehl: sorry about the late response, have not been active on Wikipedia lately. Are you have still having issues? You can use the same plugin on different wikis. Ganeshk (talk) 21:13, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could explanations be clearer?[edit]

Hi,

In the following explanations: The first line must be the first article name. All of the lines are article names., shoudln't be "the first column", rather than "the first line"? Same for "All of the lines" --> "All of the first columns"? Automatik (talk) 04:10, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Automatik:, thanks for the feedback. I have corrected it to say, "The first column in each line must have the article name". Ganeshk (talk) 21:16, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can't load plugin in AWB6.0.0.1[edit]

I just downloaded this and tried to load it in AWB. After I chose the file in the Plugins -> Load dialog and click "Open" the dialog closes, but no additional options show up, and when I open Plugin Manager, No of Plugins is 0. Am I doing this wrong? Tenbergen (talk) 22:54, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Tenbergen: thanks for bringing this to my attention. I am troubleshooting the issue and will get back to you shortly. Ganeshk (talk) 13:06, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenbergen: You can follow the discussion here, Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser#Plugins. Ganeshk (talk) 14:54, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: yes will talk there. Tenbergen (talk) 02:21, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenbergen: Please download the new version of the tool, 1.0.0.20, at Download link and let me know if it works. Ganeshk (talk) 17:59, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: Finally got around to this... the version at the link you sent doesn't seem to work either. When I chose the file under Plugins, Load, then the menu hangs partly open (ie shows "Load..." and "Manager..." indefinitely. Sorry, maybe I am a few versions behind now? The content at Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser#Plugins seems to be gone. Tenbergen (talk) 04:06, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenbergen: sorry, not sure what happened there, I saw the issue on my side too. I recompiled it again and have upload ver 1.0.0.21 here, Download link. Please try and let me know if it works. Ganeshk (talk) 16:08, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hold on, not working again. Ganeshk (talk) 16:09, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenbergen: The DLL works locally, but as soon as I upload to Internet and then download and use it, it stops working. It is really strange. That is where I am stuck. Ganeshk (talk) 12:42, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: Seems like a silly thing to have to do, but what if you uploaded it unzipped (I imagine it's not that huge)? I know that the google drive gives me an error of not being able to preview the file. Or maybe try putting it on git? Tenbergen (talk) 03:46, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenbergen: Finally we have a solution for the issue. Download the version 24 DLL from here. After the DLL file is extracted from the zip file, right click on the file and select properties. In the Properties dialog, click Unblock button under the General tab and click Apply and then OK (see screenshot on the right). Try loading the DLL after this, it should work. Ganeshk (talk) 03:50, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Here is additional information on the issue, [1] and [2]. Ganeshk (talk) 03:55, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenbergen: Have you had a chance to test this? Ganeshk (talk) 02:29, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
