Instructions do not work[edit]

The instructions for re-nominating a portal do not work, and cannot be made to work as written unless you are an admin.

Even if you are an admin, {{FPOC|Archive 1}} does nothing that is not done by {{FPOC}}. The code for Template:FPOC does not make use of any parameters.

Further, Template:FPOC attempts to show some editing instructions. These are supposed to be found at Wikipedia:Featured_portal_candidates/Editintro - which you will notice is a redlink. However, given it also tries to preload a template for the nomination from Wikipedia:Featured_portal_candidates/Preload, another redlink, it doesn't matter as much as it might.

Frankly, I'm at a loss to figure out how the instructions ever worked in the first place, and can only presume regulars are working off some mutually-developed conventions. In short, the instructions - and likely Template:FPOC - need a complete overhaul. Adam Cuerden (talk) 14:31, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

How can we fix it, Adam Cuerden ? Should we ask for admin help here? — Cirt (talk) 15:52, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Honestly, it can't work as written, so our best choice is probably to give the option to make a page along the lines of Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Foo/2. Using #titleparts it's trivial to extract the needed information from that. Adam Cuerden (talk) 16:19, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I think an easier solution may be to borrow some of the coding from FAC. Namely, the first nomination should be at /Archive 1, the second at /Archive 2, etc, and the templates involved can be recoded to look for, or create, the highest number necessary. That's how FAC does it and it works well. Imzadi 1979  18:18, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I agree with this suggestion by Imzadi1979, above. Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 13:10, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
Adam Cuerden and Imzadi1979, can you help us modify the instructions to make this work per the suggestion of Imzadi1979 ? — Cirt (talk) 13:51, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015[edit]

Hi there; this is just a quick note to let you all know that the 2015 WikiCup will begin on January 1st. The WikiCup is an annual competition to encourage high-quality contributions to Wikipedia by adding a little friendly competition to editing. At the time of writing, more than fifty users have signed up to take part in the competition; interested parties, no matter their level of experience or their editing interests, are warmly invited to sign up. Questions are welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Thanks! Miyagawa (talk) 21:44, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Did anyone notice we lost a Featured Portal director?[edit]

Cirt stopped editing in April 2016, about 8 months ago. That leaves OhanaUnited as sole FPo director, although as there has been no promotion or archiving of WP:FPOC nominations since March, nor any activity at WP:FPR either (there's one nomination there open for 20 months with no activity since June 2015!), there seems to be no need for any FPo directors since the featured portals process is dead. The portal peer review system is also dead. Shall we just tag the process as {{historical}}, like the featured sounds project, and move on? BencherliteTalk 00:55, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
