Ender
[edit]We need a box for the Ender series by Orson Scott Card. --ShadowPuppet 14:47, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
erotica
[edit]I would like one that says this user enjoys reading/writing erotica. Ok, that would be two.
Harry Potter: Ravenclaw
[edit]Why is the ravenclaw emblem not shown in the Ravenclaw userbox? I thinks we need it.
- Because it falls under fair use, and just serving to prettify our userboxes does not constitute fair use. —Nightstallion (?) Seen this already? 15:09, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, but there are non-copyright images that could serve better. Picture of a raven, perhaps? Fan-made public domain logo?-Zyrath (talk) 03:07, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Sci-fi, but no Fantasy or "Speculative Fiction"?
[edit]I'd like to know how come we have "This user enjoys reading..." tags for science fiction, mystery, humor, thrillers, legal thrillers, poetry, romance and even short stories, as well as a number of fantasy authors' works, such as Harry Potter and Discworld and Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia...
...but no straightforward "This user enjoys reading Fantasy." tag, let alone a more inclusive "Speculative Fiction" tag (I'd settle for Speculative Fiction, that I would, since I already also am using the sci-fi tag, but just... it seems WEIRD not to have a fantasy one, doesn't it?). This looks like a job for... somebody who knows who to actually create a cat/tag for fantasy readers! (I have no idea how to do that, myself). Any takers? Runa27 09:54, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to make one when I have time, as I am in dire need of it myself. I will leave you a message with its link once it is completed. --Earthsprite 22:24, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- that would be nice. embaressed to see this was allready said...i said the exact same thing at the bottom of this page:$--Lygophile 06:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- its there, thanx--Lygophile 07:58, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Lafcadio Hearn
[edit]This user likes Lafcadio Hearn and enjoys reading about stories and studies of strange things. Can somebody make this please? Merlin Storm 04:59, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Neil Gaiman
[edit]I would like to have a userbox for Author Neil Gaiman. Or is this somehting I should develop?--eipipuz 22:45, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Just take a userbox, copy the code, and modify it so that it's the way you like it. You might want to make it in your userspace though. You could risk putting it in template space though. -Royalguard11(Talk)(Desk) 19:04, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Geofiction
[edit]I'm glad my geofiction userbox was listed, but it's more of a hobby than a literature genre. --Gray Porpoise 00:29, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Fantasy
[edit]how come there are two on sci fi, but none on fantasy? and how bout one for 'speculative fiction'?--Lygophile 10:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- I notice you're the second person to ask that question recently. Historically, the term "science fiction" has been used (in the publishing industry, at least) so broadly as to encompass fantasy within its range; so when I put a science fiction userbox on my page, I certainly don't mean to exclude Lankhmar, Prydain or Earthsea from my realms. As to "speculative fiction": while I kinda like the inclusiveness of the term, it is widely perceived as a pretentious way of saying "science fiction and fantasy and stuff, but intellectually respectable
without any geek cooties or popularity"; and few people are eager to be associated with it. (Just, please, don't call science fiction "sci fi"!) --Orange Mike 15:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- yeah or id say: please dont call fantasy "science fiction"! if they used a term wrongly before, doesnt mean everyone now has to be condemned to. everyone that knows anything about it (not meant to say you dont, but to exclude people with no knowledge at all of these genres) associates science fiction with what it technically implies (fiction relating to scientific speculation), so NOT to fantasy, which is fiction set in a imaginarily enriched reality, io technologically. also speculative fiction is by now the official umbrella term for fantasy, science fiction and horror.
- fantasy and sci fi (its just a shortage) significantly differ, i know plenty people that love fantasy yet dislike science fiction, and also i know them the other way around. nobody denotes fantasy by with the term "science fiction"--Lygophile 23:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- I see and respect your point of view, but the fact is that the bookselling and publishing trades, for example, still lump fantasy and SF books together on the shelves (except when pretending that they are "just novels"). Two of the oldest SF and fantasy organizations in the world, the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society and the National Fantasy Fan Federation, still use the term "fantasy" in their names. (And "sci-fi" is considered pejorative by many SF fans, that's why I mentioned it.) Still, there's no reason not to want an "I read fantasy" userbox! --Orange Mike 15:09, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- agreed. but actually, i hate it when im looking for science fiction on a shelf that reads "fantasy", or when im looking fantasy on a shelf reading "science fiction". i could see why one would lump most science fiction (or horror for that matter) in with fantasy though, as you could call it imaginary, it could be a subversion belonging to fantasy (except hard sf though, dont think that can be considered fantasy), but deffinitely not the other way around, and i prefere being able to distinct between them.--Lygophile 09:36, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Though publishers may "lump" the two genres together, I do not think they are one and the same, akin to Lygophile. Please consider that Wikipedia separates fantasy and sci-fi as genres in its articles. If it is really that detrimental to Wikipedia, then I suppose the Fantasy userbox is not appropriate. Please leave me a line on my page. --Earthsprite 05:39, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Pynchon
[edit]Can someone make a Pynchon user box?
Other Authors
[edit]If someone make userboxes for Michael Crichton or Aldous Huxley, you would make my day, week, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DerRichter (talk • contribs) 18:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, so I made a box for Jack Kerouac but can't seem to figure out how to post it with the rest of the boxes. If someone could give me a hand I'd apprecate it. I've stashed it under my talk page for now. (talk 16:24 29 June 08
I'm a little bit of a newbie at this. It's my first full day as a Wikipedian (if you can believe it). So far I've managed to figure out how to make my own userbox for my favorite author, James Dashner, and I don't know if I'm being too forward or what, but I went ahead and stuffed it under Authors. This is okay, right? PinkMaggie (talk) 03:40, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
BookCrossing userboxes?
[edit]I have created a few userboxes for BookCrossing (links available on my user page.) Would it be appropriate to list them here under Reading, in a separate section, or would a different userbox index be more appropriate? TechBear 05:01, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Eragon
[edit]There are userboxes indicating one's favorite character in Eragon, but no userbox to state that one is a fan of Eragon. This does not make sense, and I would like the corresponding userbox added.-Zyrath (talk) 16:51, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Bizarro Fiction
[edit]Could we make userboxes related to Bizarro fiction? Is it a way to advertise books in that literary genre? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 06:04, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Serious formatting issues
[edit]There are some serious formatting issues in the section The Lord of the Rings and related books and all sections after that. At a guess, the issue seems to be flaws in the transcluded boxes, but I can't pinpoint anything. Help would be appreciated. TechBear | Talk | Contributions 14:29, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
- I believe there are just too many on the page and the content needs to be divided into multiple pages. Perhaps Books and book series could be moved to a separate page? It's the largest section, so that seems the most obvious choice to me. I'm not familiar with Wikipedia practices for this; do we need some sort of consensus in the discussion, or can I just make a new page myself and move the content? - Kylara (talk) 21:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Why not list all authors by name in TOC?
[edit]It's not clear why all the authors for which there is a userbox on this page aren't listed in the table of contents by name. Why on earth is Jane Austen under "Miscellaneous authors"? It's like discrimination or something. And so, unless there are any strong objections, I was going to go about organizing this here... Ender and Peter 22:46, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
