Consorts in Commonwealth realms
At List of Canadian monarchs, User:Lawe has expressed confusion about how the Duke of Edinburgh's titles are accorded to him by UK letters patent, and are used in the other Commonwealth realms as courtesy titles. My attempt at explanation seems to have been unsuccessful, so I am appealing here for input from others who may be able to enlighten Lawe better than I apparently can. Monarchically-centred WikiProject?
I'm wondering why this project seems to be so monarchically-centred. The monarchy, in case you're wondering, has no direct relation whatsoever to the Commonwealth. The only connection is that the title of 'Head of the Commonwealth' is (for now) held by the same person that holds sixteen crowns. A treatment of the constitution of the Commonwealth does not require treatment of articles that are incidentally related any more than WikiProject Canada concerns itself with articles related to Antigua and Barbuda (just because they share the same monarch). I have edited a great deal of articles on the constitution of the Commonwealth (see User:Bastin/Commonwealth of Nations), and not once have I been required to edit articles on the monarchy. Why? Because they aren't related! Bastin 16:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- This WikiProject used to be WikiProject:Commonwealth realms hence quite a few older discussions centre on monarchy related topics. And yes we do seem to have a high concentration of people interested in the monarchy but that's isn't really a negative thing. ;) --Cameron* 17:36, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Bastin, you're more then welcomed, to bring Commonwealth republic concerns, here. GoodDay (talk) 20:00, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. In that case, I apologise. I am, quite obviously, a monarchist. But the two are... unrelated. As, for that matter, is the subject of Commonwealth republics: which is a bizarre pseudo-academic creation that I find actually quite repugnant. It's like dividing the Commonwealth into the Coffee Commonwealth and the Tea Commonwealth (I'm from the Red Bull Commonwealth: like an indigenous monarchy, I suppose). What drink people drink is irrelevant to the Commonwealth. What other titles the Head of the Commonwealth incidentally holds is also of irrelevance. The Commonwealth makes no judgment between members based on internal constitutional systems, so long as they are democratic. Anyway.
- Instead, I focus on the Commonwealth itself: what it is, what it was, and what it does. It is an institution unto itself, has its own apparatus, and this was (is?) shockingly poorly covered. Bastin 01:49, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Coordinators' working group
Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:10, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Monarchy article infoboxes
This issue doesn't simply pertain to the Commonwealth realms articles, but does fall within them. The matter is that a user insists the infobox used at the head of Monarchy of the United Kingdom is "false". As any decisions regarding the use of the infobox in this article will potentially affect the same box's use in other articles, I thought I would bring this to the attention of the project and seek further input. The discussion is ongoing at Talk:Monarchy of the United Kingdom#Infobox (May 2009). --Miesianiacal (talk) 22:35, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Date of establishment of the Commonwealth
Hello, I was wondering if I could get some opinions at this discussion. A user believes that the List of members of the Commonwealth of Nations is wrong when it lists the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Newfoundland, Ireland and South Africa as joining in 1931 (the date given at the Commonwealth Secretariat). I'm not an expert on Commonwealth history (although I help take care of the list) and I was wondering if I could get the opinions of other users. Thanks, Scorpion0422 19:47, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
England at GAC!
Alerting all WikiProject Commonwealth/Archive 2 members that England is undergoing a review for WP:GA status. Things you can help with are listed here. Please help if you can... England expects that every man will do his duty.... :) --Jza84 | Talk 16:23, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
