Project directory[edit]

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:16, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards[edit]

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:36, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

The map of India[edit]

Hi, could you guys please have a look at the map of India? The map is not as per Govt. of India's India map, see the state of Jammu and Kashmir. I have found that the same map has been copied in various wiki India sites. Could you guys please take care that the non-India maps are replaced by the real map of India, as per that of the Govt. on India, as in the link above. Being Indians, I think this is a shame to show a wrong map of India, that does not agree with the official map of India, and it is also sending a wrong message to the world.

Thanks

Goa at WP:FAR[edit]

Goa has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here.--Dwaipayan (talk) 08:29, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

WP:INDIA Tagging with TinucherianBot[edit]

TinucherianBot can automatically tag articles with {{WP India}} Banner as {{WP India|class=|importance=}} to the talk page of articles without the project banner. It can also add the workgroup paramaters like "|kerala=yes|kerala-importance=" etc ,if needed. The currently supported workgroups are Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bengal, Goa, Himachal Pradesh , Karnataka , Punjab, cities, Cinema, Literature, Protected Areas of India, History, Politics, states, Geography,Maps,Districts and Tamil.

If you need so, you need to provide me with the Categories to run the Bot. Due to some technical issues, the Bot will not run recursively to sub-categories. The requester should kindly verify that there are NO non-related articles in the category.
You may request for the bot run on my talk page... Thanks -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 06:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Watchlists[edit]

To help this workgroup patrol existing articles for vandalism/recent changes, Ganeshbot has created the Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian states/Articles page. This page will be updated on a regular basis. Please do remind me if I forget. :) It contains articles that were tagged with the India banner and fall under the scope of this workgroup. Please let me know in case of any questions. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 11:35, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup listings[edit]

User:WolterBot has created a Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian states/Cleanup listing page; it contains the articles that fall under the scope this workgroup and have cleanup tags on them. See this page for more information on this works. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 04:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Indian states[edit]

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! WP 1.0 bot announcement[edit]

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:26, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian states/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian states/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:47, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Changing the ordinary State template[edit]

It's Better to change the all the state and territory templates templates from ordinary Navbox template to Indian state navigation box template. It has more reliable options and a standard look. By using this template we are able to make easily state and territory templates of all states in India. BINOY Talk 09:47, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Indian states articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Indian states articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

WikiProject cleanup listing[edit]

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 21:21, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Expert attention[edit]

This is a notice about Category:Indian states articles needing expert attention, which might be of interest to your WikiProject. It will take a while before the category is populated. Iceblock (talk) 05:59, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Vaishali district-related articles[edit]

Please see Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics#Vaishali district-related articles. Many thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:00, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live![edit]

WikiProject X icon.svg

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Creation of Indian Infobox Templates:[edit]

Hello, I think we should make our own Infobox Templates Like Indian States, Indian Union Territories etc. Please submit your views on this topic. Prymshbmg (talk) 11:40, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

RfC: Request for new infobox Template for Indian States and Territories[edit]

The following discussion is an archived record of a request for comment. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
closing per request at WP:ANRFC. While there is consensus that a new infobox would possibly be appropriate, the general feeling is that one (or a draft of one) should be created before the idea is accepted or proposed again. Mdann52 (talk) 11:44, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Should we create new infobox template for the Indian states and territories ? Prymshbmg (talk) 08:53, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

  • Yes: I think we should create a new template for Indian States and Territories as each country has a different formula for catagorizing their states and provinces, India has a unique method of linguistic division of states and territories. Also India merged the provinces and princely states and created new states and territories, which is much different from other countries and requires different type of summarisation than the states of any other country; Hence needs different type of infobox in which every section is in sync with the catagorization of State or Territory. Many other countries have their own charachteristic infobox template for their states, so India should also have one. Here is the one that I made.User:Prymshbmg/Infobox Indian State. Please Comment and suggest.Prymshbmg (talk) 09:14, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Template used above is just a sample template, you can suggest thing to be added and refined, in this topic or on my talk page. Please don`t consider the template for expressing your views in the RfC. As it is not complete yet.Prymshbmg (talk) 13:15, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Not yet This RfC would be better conducted once an adequate replacement infobox has been completed, since otherweise we don't know what we are voting to replace the current {{Infobox state}} with. The draft infobox is not an improvement in its current sate since it does not deal with any of the India-specific issues of linguistic division; state and UT categorization; historical reorganizations etc that are mentioned by Prymshbmg. Also it contains ambiguous/undue fields such as "Landforms", "Rivers", "Minerals", "Festivals", "Classical Dance", "Classical Music", "Folk Dance", "Folk Songs" that are certain to become locus of disputes and/or Infobox larding and lacks many important fields. Lastly, a new template will require the help of an experienced template coder, since we wouldn't want to loose the data parsing and error-checks in the {{Infobox state}} template. Abecedare (talk) 14:50, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Agreed with Abecedare: Draft something for us to examine. Just proposing that "we create [a] new infobox template" for this topic is kind of like promising "change" in a political campaign. The devils are in the details.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  14:59, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Not with this version - Abecedare sums it up pretty well. I love the idea and I do believe this is most certainly needed. But I don't agree with the choice of parameters you made. Perhaps it will be best to close this RfC and start a discussion on this talk page about the parameters to be included in the new template. The idea is great and there is plenty of scope for a better template. — Yash! (Y) 13:51, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
  • What is it that should be on the infobox that's missing currently? I don't see anything at all at Tamil Nadu. At this point I'm not seeing a reason for another template to add to the Settlement hierarchy. —SpacemanSpiff 20:20, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Discussion[edit]

  • User:Prymshbmg asked on my talk page for suggested changes for the proposed infobox. Here are some quick thoughts (just to get the discussion started):
  1. Firstly, the infobox should replicate all the needed fields and features of {{Infobox state}}. A survey of the state and UT pages should show which fields are needed for the Indian pages.
  2. Secondly, any fields that are definitely not needed for Indian states and UT can be removed. For example, unlike the {{Infobox state}} template, the India state and UT template need not support non-metric units.
  3. Thirdly, any fields that are usually needed for Indian state and UT articles can be natively supported by the new template. For example, currently Official Languages are specified in the infobox by defining such a field under the optional demographics fields supported by the template; and the HDI and literacy index by using one of the blank fields (see the Tamil Nadu or Gujarat page in editing mode to see what I am talking about). In the new template, these can be pre-defined options.
  4. New fields to be added: This will require the most thought and discussion. I don't have any concrete proposals right now, but any field whose definition and inclusion criterion is not indisputable should be kept out. So for example we should not have infobox entries for popular sports, dances, music, or even spoken languages (as opposed to official languages) etc all of which are better discussed in the article body.
Abecedare (talk) 14:46, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks User: Abecedare for suggestion, as I am currently working on new format and style of template. I think flora and fauna present in the state should also be in infobox along with state's animal, state's flower, state's bird, state's tree, etc., as many of the states in India asign for themselves. This also shows the significance of state in preserving the biodiversity. Prymshbmg (talk) 17:02, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the debate. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
