19th and 20th century history[edit]

I've been particularly interested in LA's 19th and 20th century history. For editors interested in politics, please be aware of a big gap in some political articles - the long disenfranchisement of African Americans in the state beginning with formal actions taken at the end of the 19th century and lasting essentially until after passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. So, if an article is about "the first Republican elected since Reconstruction", for instance, or about the Republican Party in the state (which I've recently worked on) please ensure that it also explains WHY no Republicans were elected for decades: the state's party was hollowed out after African Americans were disenfranchised. This gap exists in numerous articles about Southern states and Southern politicians, and I'm trying to address it across the board.Parkwells (talk) 20:10, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
