For Brooklyn, there is Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Brooklyn. --Padraic 22:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Exotic goals (with bonus points)

[edit]

We're thinking about having bonus points for exotic goals that are difficult to get to. Particular tombs at cemeteries, isolated buildings on little islands, buildings with fantastic things inside that are somewhat difficult to get into, etc. You can keep this in mind with your suggestions, and maybe make a separate section. Thanks for your help.--Pharos (talk) 03:30, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

how did you do the list?

[edit]

How did you do the list: "buildings without photos"? Is it a man-made list or program-generated? I hope it is automatically generated and I can do this in Hungarian Wikipedia, too. Misibacsi (talk) 19:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly man-made. There might be a way to make this more automatically, and I'm going to look into that if we ever repeat the event. I don't know if you have categories like Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in New York City on the Hungarian Wikipedia; such categories were the start of this list (though they are a source of a minority of the items).--Pharos (talk) 20:14, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, are you thinking about a "Wikipedia Takes Budapest"?--Pharos (talk) 20:41, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Institutionalized

[edit]

Will a permanent Project New York Pictures grow out of this effort? Seems to me, the many Gothamite shutterbugs could use a forum for ongoing discussion of what, where and how to photograph the available great sites. I couldn't show up for the event, but instead as usual unfolded my bike and pedalled out alone on Sunday, this time along the right bank of Newtown Creek for its insufficiently appreciated views. Well, we're planning a Wikipedia Takes Manhattan 2 for the fall, so this might become a regular semi-annual event. And, considering how many of our targets were covered this time, I think we should at least double the size of the list next time, planning for increased participation. Maybe we should establish a task force at Wikipedia:WikiProject New York City to coordinate these events and other local photo-related stuff.--Pharos (talk) 03:27, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is pleasant to see how much of the shopping list got snapped. I've been a NYC weekend bicycler for a third of a century and a photographer for half a year. For each trip I select a target, hit the road, usually miss the target and catch a bunch of nice unexpected stuff. Last Sunday the target was the jungle at the summit of the New York and Putnam Railroad in the middle of Yonkers but I didn't bring an empty SD card and pedalled all around Southwest Westchester, finally finding ammo at Ardsley on Sawmill River Road, turning south at Elmsford and quitting due to approaching darkness at the rapids of the Sawmill river. Previous Sunday's target was the Barnum and Bailey circus train at Long Island City which wasn't in the station but I snapped other nice things. This weekend's target is the mill races of the Society for Useful Manufactures at Paterson, NJ, to be reached through Branch Brook Park's Cherry Blossomland. Odds are maybe one in three of hitting the target, but I can still win without bagging what's on a shopping list.
Hard part comes after returning. Much poring over bad pictures to select one or two decent ones, identify whether Wikipedia has an article but doesn't yet have as good a photo, trim up with Photoshop, write a description and upload. I don't envy you for the work you do on the contest entries. This week I've been learning to do it with Commons. Too bad there isn't an easy way to send my old pictures from Wikipedia to Commons, with descriptions, cats and all. The quick way, such as it is, involves moving each back down to my computer and then up again through my slow connection rather than directly from one Wiki collection to the other. Maybe they'll fix that, one day. Jim.henderson (talk) 02:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from LikeLakers2, 22 August 2012

[edit]

Please change the redirect to point to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Spring 2008/Goals, to fix the double redirect. Thanks. LikeLakers2 (talk | Sign my guestbook!) 21:59, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't actually say which redirect needed to be amended - you can do that with the first positional parameter to {{editrequest}} - so I did a search for double redirects, and the only one I found was this, which as you can see, I have amended. --Redrose64 (talk) 08:03, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(Done from alternate account) You probably saw the edit request after Pharos had moved the page. Either way, Special:DoubleRedirects does not show the page as a double redirect anymore. Michaelm55 (talk) 13:20, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
