Your edits to The Trap (television documentary series)[edit]

I have had to revert all of your edits to The Trap (television documentary series), as they largely consisted of erroneous and inappropriate changing of British English to American English spellings (e.g. "programme" → "program"; "behaviour" → "behavior"; "-ise" → "-ize"; etc.). As the page is about a British subject, it is accepted Wikipedia practice that British English spelling and language conventions have primacy. Please respect this in future. coupla tips[edit]

Hi there, thanks for your improvements to same-sex marriage in Oregon. I noticed a couple things you might not be aware of: first, on the way dates work. 10 March 1999 and March 10 1999 render the same way, it's the magic of Wikipedia; in your user preferences, you can determine whether you want the day or month first, and it will be applied to all dates formatted this way. So, you needn't change the format on pages – unless you want to make sure it's in that format.

Second, if you put an em-dash in the text like this: — it renders properly, you don't need to use the — HTML code. Hope this helps, take it easy! -Pete 04:33, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

National varieties of English[edit]

Greetings. I'd like to bring to your attention this comment I made to the talk page for the article Siamese fighting fish wherein I refer to these edits that you made on 26 Oct 2007. I notice, as well, from your own talk page here above that User:West London Dweller pointed out to you, almost a year ago, Wikipedia's guidelines regarding spelling variants. I'd request that you take the time to review those guidelines and I'd also ask that you refrain from changing the spelling variant of articles where there is no compelling reason to do so. Wikipedia attempts to be welcoming to readers and to editors from around the world and you could aid us in that regard by not needlessly undoing the work of others. I'm wondering why the editing spell checker flags all "Commonwealth" spellings as misspellings.

I have no idea which of any number of "editing spell checker[s]" you may be using. I know I contribute with Mozilla Firefox and it has an editing spell checker that flags all non-Commonwealth spellings. The behaviour of most spell checkers responds to a setting somewhere, even if it's in your own, base regionalisation settings. In any case, your spell checker did not change those spellings; by your own admission, it merely "flagged" them. Ultimately, it was you who decided to change them and a couple of the edits to which I referred, above, were, in toto, changes to Commonwealth spellings. In any event, Wikipedia has policies and guidelines of which your spell checker may not be aware. That does not obviate your requirement to be sensitive to them and to respect them.
