Area code 772
Area code 772 serves the Treasure Coast of the state of Florida. It covers Sebastian, Fellsmere, Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach, Stuart, Hobe Sound, Indiantown, and other areas in east central Florida. It was created in 2002 as a split from area code 561 when there was a need for more phone numbers (due in part to the increase of cell phone users).
The region of this code is unique in as it has been under four different area codes in about a 15 year span. It spent 41 years as part of area code 305, until it became part of area code 407 in 1988, then it became part of 561 in 1996, and finally split off into 772 in 2002, where it has currently held since and shows no signs of needing relief at this time.
