Buxiban (Traditional Chinese: 補習班 pinyin: bǔ xí bān) are cram schools in Taiwan and the People's Republic of China.
It's a traditional belief that parents should send their children to all kinds of cram schools in order to compete against other talented children. Therefore, most children in Taiwan have a schedule packed with all sorts of cram school lessons.
Buxiban teach a variety of subjects, including math, Chinese characters, and English as a foreign language. Studying at several buxiban is widely perceived as necessary to get a high-enough college entrance exam score to attend prestigious universities in Taiwan such as National Taiwan Normal University and National Taiwan University.
