Commanding the just (Arabic: امر بالمعروفAmr bi l-Ma‘rūf) is a part of Shia Islam's Branches of Religion and means to encourage people to do the necessary good in life, when they forget to do so; for example forgetting Salah.

[edit] Etymology

The doctrine is derived from the Qur'anic Enjoin what is good and forbid what is wrong.
