Charlotte in Multilink World is a British-American web series created by Kelvin Kibuuka[1] and produced by Multilink Studios.[2] Premiering on May 30th, 2019, the show is set in a parallel universe and centers around the adventures of a young girl named Charlotte Mills in a world populated by sentient cubes.[1]

The series has garnered a substantial following since its debut, with a significant presence on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Notably, it boasts an impressive 8.5 rating on IMDb, attesting to its high-quality content and engaging style.[2] Its legacy version spans six seasons, with 46 episodes, each having a runtime of 1-5 minutes.[3] Meanwhile, its reimagined version spans two seasons with 16 episodes, each having a runtime of 2-3 minutes.[4]

Premise[edit]

Charlotte in Multilink World revolves around Charlotte Mills and her friends, Emily Hamilton, Brooke Passingham and Maria Burdett-Clark. Residing in a fantastical world with anthropomorphic multicolored cubes, they face challenges from the cunning Regina Carman.[5] The plot unfolds as they navigate social dynamics, form alliances, and strive to protect the multilink cubes from Regina's schemes.[1][2]

Style[edit]

The show maintains a 2D art style, occasionally experimenting with CGI and real-life environments in later seasons.[2] Season 6 introduces a Minecraft environment for enhanced visual appeal and interactivity, which is something the reimagined version of the show also went along with, starting in Season 2.[4]

Characters[edit]

  • Charlotte Mills[1], the protagonist of the series, who is a compassionate and supernaturally-empowered individual who possesses unique abilities acquired in the sixth season.[6]
  • Emily Hamilton[1], Charlotte's best friend, a steadfast companion throughout their adventures.
  • Brooke Passingham[1], a remarkable and respected police officer who is courageous, loyal, and dedicated, known for standing up for her beliefs.
  • Maria Burdett-Clark[1], a true scientist with an insatiable thirst for knowledge an specialises in crafting unique and wacky potions using chemistry and biology.
  • Lois Pert[1], Brooke's best friend, a bit of a tomboy, and a dedicated police officer.
  • Ariana Passingham, Brooke's sister, who is independent and fiercely determined for her age.
  • Regina Carman, the cunning and malevolent antagonist of the series who possesses a deep understanding of the multilink cube world, using it for selfish purposes.[5]

Episodes[edit]

The first five seasons of the legacy version adopted a gallery-style approach, exploring various characters and situations. Season 6 departed from this format, introducing actual storylines and episode titles.[3] Meanwhile, the reimagined version started entirely from scratch, attempting to make every episode as engaging as possible by adding new elements and fleshing out characters more.[4][7][8]

Legacy and future plans[edit]

The legacy version faced criticism upon release, primarily due to its reliance on a simplistic slideshow presentation style. This approach, though seemingly straightforward, hindered the immersive potential of the web series. Viewers found the passive presentation of static images and text blocks less engaging, leading to disappointment among the audience.[3]

In response to feedback from fans dissatisfied with the format and quality of the first five seasons, Multilink Studios launched the ambitious project Charlotte in Multilink World: Reimagined in 2023. This initiative aims to replace the original slideshow episodes with more engaging content. The project involves remaking each episode from scratch, utilizing a blend of 2D and 3D animation, live-action footage, and voice acting.[4]

The reimagining initiative demonstrates the creators' commitment to enhancing the viewer experience and addressing audience concerns. This innovative approach reflects a dedication to evolving the series in response to fan feedback and industry trends.[4]
