Syed Faisal Ali is a Member of Bihar Legislative Council, journalist and author. He is currently serving as the National General Secretary for the RJD.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Syed Faisal Ali was born on Born on 29th of December, 1967 in Patna to a Nawab Muslim family. His father Late Syed Ashahad Ali was a was a senior lawyer at Patna High Court, a member syndicate of several universities of Bihar, and a member of Bihar State Minorities Commission who served as the vice president of the Janta Party. His mother Nuzhat Ahsan is a retired English teacher.

His grandfather Syed Riyasat Ali Nadvi was the well-known Islamic scholar and historian who was also a well known freedom fighter and a member of the Indian National Congress. His grand father opposed the formation of Pakistan and the Muslim League, actively participated in freedom movement and was jailed during the Khilafat movement.

An M.A. in English literature, M.B.A. (PMIR) and LL.B from Magadh University, Ali early in his career lectured in the Department of Business Studies in Gaya College, Gaya. He also did PG DIP From L.N Mishra Institute Patna in 1992 Personal Managment & Industrial Realations.

Journalism[edit]

Ali served for over 15 years as Editor at Arab News, Saudi Arabia’s largest-selling English daily. He also served as Group Editor at Sahara News Network.

A seasoned traveller, he has extensively reported from Spain, France, Turkey, Indonesia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and so on and written articles on Indo-Pak issues, Middle East affairs, etc.

He was also associated with the BBC World Service for a long time reporting from many other international and Indian media outlets.

In 2014, he was invited by the US for its prestigious International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) and was re-invited in 2015 to visit the world’s largest warship USS Theodore Roosevelt to witness its operations against the ISIS from the Red Sea.

Political Career[edit]

Ali joined the RJD. He contested the 2019 Indian General Elections from Sheohar, Bihar. He lost the election to BJP candidate Rama Devi.

In 2023, He contested the election for the Bihar legislative council and was elected as an MLC.

Political Views[edit]

A Gandhian, He is opposed to the "safforisation" of Indian society in the garb of Hindutava and believes in unity in diversity. A socialist at heart, he is an ardent supporter of the social justice movement of Lalu Prasad Yadav, and promoter of feminism and women empowerment. He supports education and equal opportunity to all.

Accolades[edit]

Among the numerous accolades he has received, notable are the Rajiv Gandhi Annual Global Excellence Award in 2013, Adab-o-Sahafat Award, Mohammad Ali Jauhar Award and Mohsin-e-Sahafat Award in 2012.
