Faisal Hashmi (Template:Lang-gu) is an Indian film director and screenwriter. He shot to fame right from his first Gujarati feature film Vitamin She.[1] He wrote and directed the first-ever Gujarati language sci-fi feature film Short Circuit and opened the doors to a new genre for Gujarati cinema.[2][3]

Early life and education

Faisal was born on 1 August 1985 in Palanpur. His father is a school teacher and his mother is a housewife. He did his graduation in Mechanical Engineering. His parents wanted him to be an engineer, but he was more keen on films. Jurassic Park made a huge impact on his mind upon its release and he decided to be a filmmaker.

While pursuing Mechanical Engineering, Faisal has successfully cleared all the interviews held by Infosys during the campus placement. He was even offered an appointment later. But he choose to not to go at Infosys and decided to pursue his passion for filmmaking.

Faisal is a known comic book geek. He has a vast collection (over 2000+) of comic books in his personal collection.[4]

Career

Faisal made his debut with a Gujarati language feature film Vitamin She which was a great success at the box office and earned him accolades from the industry.[5] It was also a debut feature film for the most famous radio jockey of Gujarat, Dhvanit Thaker as a lead actor. After the release of Vitamin She, Faisal directed his second Gujarati language feature film Daud Pakad, a comedy Thriller film. For Daud Pakad, he joined hands with his long-time friends and famous south Indian action directors Anbariv for quality stunt work. The film is yet to release.[6]

Faisal and Dhvanit again joined hands for the first ever Gujarati sci-fi feature film Short Circuit.[7] It was the first film that used high-end technical crew from Bollywood as well as South India.[8] The film received positive reviews from critics as well as audience upon its release and praised for its direction, plot, VFX and performances [9] and had a four-week successful run at the box office.[10]
