I Can See Your Voice franchise

I Can See Your Voice is a Philippine television mystery music game show series produced and distributed locally by ABS-CBN Entertainment, based on the South Korean program of the same name. Since its premiere on September 16, 2017,[1] the series has aired four seasons on three different networks — ABS-CBN (from 2017 to 2020) and Kapamilya Channel and A2Z (from 2020 to 2022).

Gameplay

Format

Presented with a group of five "mystery singers" identified only by their occupation, a guest artist must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel (also known as SING-vestigators) over the course of three rounds. At the end of the game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of a duet between them and one of the guest artists.[2][3]

Rewards

At the end of each round, the eliminated mystery singer gets a consolation prize starting with 5,000 for the first round, ₱10,000 for the second round, and ₱15,000 for the third round. If singer is good, the guest artist wins an award (as Eyeward) and he/she will compete at Tawag ng Tanghalan. The winning singer, regardless of being good (SEE-nger) or bad (SEE-ntunado), wins ₱25,000.

Rounds

Each episode presents the guest artist with five people whose identities and singing voices are kept concealed until they are eliminated to perform on the "stage of truth" or remain in the end to perform the final duet.

  • Visual round
  • Stop, Looks, and Listen

The guest artist is given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance. Afterward, a muted video of each mystery singer reveals only 0.3 seconds of their singing voice as an additional hint.[a][b]

  • Two or False

Each mystery singer is given two different identities — as a good singer and as a bad singer. Only one of them is their real identity.[b][c][d]

  • Lip sync round
  • The Voice is Syncing

Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers mime to a recording of their own performance, while bad singers mime to a recording by someone else.[a][b]

  • Sync Zoned

Each mystery singer performs a lip sync from a non-lyrical piece of a song (i.e. screams, whistles, interjections, etc.).[a]

  • Everybody Sync

The mystery singers are divided into two groups of two or three, and participate in a lip sync performance to one song each.[c][d]

  • Evidence round
  • I Like to Prove It! Prove It!

A proof of each mystery singer's singing ability (i.e. photo, video, certificates, etc.) is shown on the screen. Good singers have own evidences, while bad singers have their evidences fabricated.[a]

  • Clues Open

The host has randomly assigned clues about the mystery singer. The guest artist must choose a clue for each mystery singer.[d]

A Whole New Word — The panelist is given a statement with an assigned "keyword" to one of the remaining mystery singers of their choice.
Bed of Boses — A video recording from a studio session by one of the remaining mystery singers of their choice reveals only 0.3 seconds of their singing voice as an additional hint.
Message Parlor — The guest artist is presented with a video package featuring a "super fan" of one of the remaining mystery singers of their choice.
Song Ka Pa — The host reveals a playlist of three "mystery songs" that are appropriated to one of the remaining mystery singers of their choice.
Tabi-tabi Po — The guest artist asks a question to one of the remaining mystery singers of their choice that can answer with nonverbal communication.
  • Rehearsal round
  • Play it by Hear

Three random panelists are wearing headphones to listen to a recording of assigned mystery singer that lasts for 15 seconds. Afterward, the panelist defends the mystery singer and convince the guest artist to choose them as the winner.[a][b][c]

Production

Background and development

ABS-CBN first announced the development of the series in collaboration with Endemol Shine Group on August 2017.[4][5] It is produced by ABS-CBN Entertainment; the staff team is managed by executive producer Rose Casala, Laurenti Dyogi, Marvi Gelito, Carlo Katigbak and Cory Vidanes; and director Joane Laygo.

Filming

Filmings for the series took place at the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center at Brgy. South Triangle, Diliman, Quezon City. Since the third season, tapings have been implemented health and safety protocols due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[6]

In the second season, production was halted on March 2020 due to pandemic.[7][8] The second indefinite network shutdown and denial of franchise then took place, bringing the second season ended prematurely.[9][10] Despite ABS-CBN didn't have their own franchise, tapings were resumed on October 2020 to prepare for the third season.

Broadcast

History

ICSYVPH debuted on September 16, 2017, replacing Lethal Weapon.[1] The inaugural first season was the longest in entire franchise by episode count.[11] The second season began airing on August 10, 2019[12] but was prematurely ended on March 14, 2020 because of halting productions.[7][8] The third season then premiered on October 24, 2020,[13][14] coinciding the inaugural broadcast of TV5's rival show Masked Singer Pilipinas.[15][16] The fourth season has an initial premiere on January 8, 2022.[17] However, it was delayed and began airing on January 15, 2022, with the airing of 1MX Manila 2021 that occupied its original premiere week.[18]

This program was originally aired on ABS-CBN for two seasons. During the network's shutdown, Kapamilya Channel and A2Z brought over interim broadcasts for another two seasons. It also simulcasts on YouTube through Kapamilya Online Live streaming. Outside of the Philippines, it is aired on TFC through international transmissions. They are available for streaming on iWantTFC through video on demand.

Special episodes and companion events

In ICSYVPH's first anniversary (still as part of the first season), a prelude episode (dubbed as Best Mode) aired on September 9, 2018,[19] following by back-to-back specials on September 15 and 16, 2018 that featured Kalokalike contestants[20][21] and celebrities as mystery singers.[22][23] Other mystery singer batches having aired as "specials" also include duos[24][25] and groups[26] (from first season); and the elderly[27][28] and foreigners[29] (from second season).

The fourth season has a companion event called I Can Guess Your Voice, an in-game event whose watchers (acting as Home SING-vestigators) use social media to correctly guess the outcome of winning mystery singer, either it was good or bad by means of a duet with one of the guest artists.[17][18]

Cast

The series employs a team of "celebrity panelists" who decipher mystery singers' evidences throughout the game. Alongside with full-timers and additional ones, guest panelists also appear since the first season. Throughout its broadcast, the program has assigned 14 different panelists. The original members consist of Wacky Kiray, Kean Cipriano, Alex Gonzaga, Andrew E., and Angeline Quinto.[2] Beside with original cast, later additions also include Bayani Agbayani (from first season); KaladKaren (from second season);[30] Long Mejia, Negi, Nikko Natividad, and Jona Viray (from third season);[31] and MC Muah [tl], Ruffa Gutierrez, and Lassy [tl] (from fourth season).[32]
