Jefferson Parish Public Schools is a school district based in Harvey in unincorporated Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States.[1][2] The district operates all public schools in Jefferson Parish. In October 2009, the release of annual school performance scores by the state revealed that Jefferson Parish's public school system posted its largest-ever increase in performance score, to 78.4, though the performance score remains significantly below the state average of 91.[3] In recent years, more rapid growth in the performance score of New Orleans Public Schools schools, to 70.6 by the same metric, suggests that after decades of underperformance, inner-city New Orleans public schools performance could surpass that of Jefferson Parish - a possibility unimaginable before Hurricane Katrina.[4]
