Machida (町田市, Machida-shi) is a city located in the western part of the greater metropolis of Tokyo, Japan. The city was founded on February 1, 1958.

As of October 1, 2010, the city has an estimated population of 424,669 and a population density of 5,928.65 persons per km². The total area is 71.63 km². Machida is also the home of Obirin University.
