Spelling[edit]

The title "Aarni", with two "A's" is not consistent with published references that show only one "A", as "Arni". Appropriate changes should be made by a Wikipedia editor who is familiar with this town in India and who can confirm the correct spelling. Woodlot (talk) 13:46, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 11 June 2020[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved to the original title under which the article was created: Arani. The only sources provided below are for Arni, but with 4 editors commenting and 2 of them supporting Arani, the arguments for a change to Aarani or Arni have not found consensus. Aarani, Tiruvannamalai DistrictArani, Tiruvannamalai District – The spelling "Arani" is the one used in most sources. In fact "Arni" is a more common alternative spelling than "Aarani". Pichpich (talk) 15:27, 11 June 2020 (UTC) Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 15:17, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Tamilnadu government announced in new of Aarani. As per government record name in Aarani. Cm announcement in Arani to Aarani. This is correct name spelling. Thank you. Gunamurugesan (talk) 00:52, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The G.O. regarding namechanging has been withdrawn. Therefore, kindly change the name to Arni. ARNI is the official name of the town and the Municipality. Not Arani or Aarani. Thanks. Periyarist (talk) 16:41, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support change to Arani on grounds given in proposal, that it is most common in sources. The official name is irrelevant and seems volatile in any case. If further down the track this all changes, then is the time to consider renaming the article. Andrewa (talk) 16:57, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support to Arni Arni link
  • Arni is the not common and the official name. Arani is not used anywhere. Kindly change to the official and most common name Arni. Periyarist (talk) 17:03, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Related moves[edit]

See Special:Contributions/Gunamurugesan for many recent article moves apparently based entirely on recent official name changes.

These appear to have all been completed several days ago. I will await the outcome of this RM before moving them back, assuming of course that this then appears necessary. Or in view of my involvement here it might be better to raise a formal multi-move RM. Andrewa (talk) 23:18, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
