Fork?[edit]

Is a new page really need? Beyond a new resolution it's the very same game. A paragraph on the BG2 article would be more than enough. Bertdrunk (talk) 00:06, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This could easily be expanded, particularly the development and reception sections. Its definitely independently notable as well. -- ferret (talk) 00:42, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly independently notable. It's got several new characters, sidequests, and formed a distinct release with its own reviews, with a distinct the development that was covered in several outlets. Plus the there's the enhanced Infinity Engine and UI, and a bunch of other gameplay differences, ranging from increased mod-ability, bug fixes, new items, new spells, new kits, etc. etc. etc.
Were this a trivial remaster e.g. Metro 2033 ported to a new engine, or a DLC-like thing, it wouldn't deserve its own article, but playing BG1/2 vs BGEE1/2 is a hugely different experience. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 01:48, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My edit[edit]

The article was going on and on about how the game was supposed to be released in 2013, then there were rumours it wouldn't be, and then it was released in 2013. It was a poor read.

The drama about contract negotiations could be put back into the article, but in a better way IMO. Jozsefs (talk) 08:28, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it certainly didn't belong in the lead. Someone may want to integrate it into the Development section, and if so here is the removed text:
Overhaul Games initially planned to release it in 2013,[1] after the release of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, but due to contractual issues with Atari, Beamdog announced that the Enhanced would not be launched.[2] On August 15, 2013 Beamdog CEO Trent Oster announced that the contractual issues have been resolved and that news regarding Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition was forthcoming.[3] 2601:240:E200:3B60:E0FD:4466:64:7446 (talk) 13:07, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
