This article needs a lot of work. -- Zoe

Is the title of the album really Suprise, or Surprise? -- Zoe

OK, I looked it up. As I expected, it's SuRprise. -- Zoe

Removed link from Pub rock (UK) as I don't think this band fit the bill, esp. if they were not formed until 1987 quercus robur

I can't help but point out that In 1994 they released their first album Deluxe in 1995. is the most incredible sentence I've ever seen.

For some reason, someone blanked the talk page. I put it back. DCB4W 01:28, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Name

You probably don't know that Ezra is a very common name by Israeli men. I don't know about the name of the band, but now when you know that Ezra is a name might give you a tiny clue for the band's name.

Ezra was the original singer in the band before they where signed, he left becuase he thought the rest of the band had no talent, though soon after his departure the amount of people who went to their shows sky rocketed, thus they renamed theirselves "Better than Ezra"

The band has only had one singer. So the story above about an "original singer" is not true. Per the article, the band does not disclose the origins of its name. Unless that changes (and I doubt it will), there is no reason to speculate as to the origins of the name.--Mercer123 21:49, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

I read in article once that the band was named after a line in Hemingway "Anything was better than Ezra playing the tuba," or something along those lines. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I wish I remember where I read it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.45.74.25 (talk) 23:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Iazdagreat - From what i've heard they were lining for some concert, maybe their first one and they still dont have a name. then it is their turn and the organiser asked thei name for the announcement..one of the band members asked what is the name of the band before us and the organiser answered Ezra. And the band decided to name the band Better Than Ezra..haha..maybe it's true.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.52.144.29 (talk) 08:06, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Would that previous band happen to be Ezra Charles & The Works? They're a Houston-area cover band that I've always heard about in the 80's and 90's. I figured BTE had a gig at the same venue as Ezra Charles and as a goof decided to put "Better Than Ezra" as their name so it would look funny in the venue's ad. - Tmoverbeck (talk) 18:53, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

The story about the "band before us" is not true, either. God this is a lame discussion. Mercer123 (talk) 04:43, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

The band's name comes from a National Lampoon Magazine article. If you ask any founding band member about it, he will not refute it, but merely decline to comment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.139.87.100 (talk) 17:30, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Prove it.ObiWan353 (talk) 17:28, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Maybe I am giving them too much credit for an literary allusion (or not giving them enough credit in that it is an outrageously false claim) but I always assumed it was a reference to the American poet, Ezra Pound.99.240.139.189 (talk) 01:17, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Nikka Costa sample

Can someone add that BTE sampled Nikka Costa's 2001 song "Everybody's Got Their Something" for "Juicy"?

And "Everybody's Got Their Something" was also used for Desperate Housewives ads.[1]

Nope, The Ezra version "Juicy" is used on Desperate Housewives

They did a cover of the the love is stronger than death

I sent a letter to them asking about concert dates, free stuff, etc., but they didn't write back! Very dissapointing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.154.84.226 (talk) 19:39, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
