Charming article, if it wasn't so idealised and one-sided. Because it's sad to note in history, that the legacy of the American armed services in this part of Asia also affected the way that "dating" developed.

After all when the naval base was operating, the notion of courtship by many US personnel involved whoring, drinking and periodical rape. Generations of women in the Philippines were nothing more than sex objects. A legacy that continues today.

To the Philippines middle classes this article might ring true, but for many this is just aspirational nonsense. It's like discussing - in glowing terms - the business district of Mumbai as indicative of that city, ignoring the large slums that are also actually there! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.140.220.6 (talk) 12:22, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Such nonsense...[edit]

It's thankfully rare to come across such patronizing nonsense as this article on Wikipedia. The lead states it is "A society that respects women", yet the article on Women's rights in the Philipines states that "traditionally the husband owns his wife and makes the decisions regarding her body. She can neither ask for nor deny her husband’s wishes. Because of this cultural mindset, women in Philippine rural areas experience higher rates of domestic abuse than those from urban areas".
