Dick/Richie[edit]

Source on the re-write of the name controversy is Bill James's excellent sketch biography of him in The Baseball Book 1990. Ellsworth 20:14, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hall of Fame[edit]

Dick is widely considered to be one of the best players not in the Hall of Fame. There should be some mention of this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.192.53.216 (talkcontribs) .

Then make it so! Just cite your sources please.  :) —Wknight94 (talk) 21:43, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sources and blp[edit]

Thsi article contains a ton of negative info without citing sources, and thereofre violates WP:BLP. Please clean it up. Thanks. Marcus Taylor 21:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree. It's rare if not impossible to find ex-teammates of Allen who are critical of his clubhouse presence. That should count more than the negative media coverage and uninformed fan opinions that seem to be the (uncited) sources for much of this very biased Wikipedia article. See http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/rwas/index.php?category=11&id=2065 for reliable quotes from former managers and teammates who directly contradict many of the Wiki article's negative assertions. This is a guy who took to wearing a batting helmet on the field because people were throwing stuff at him. You can't gloss over the negative public image, even if it was unfair, as with guys with similar "jackets" like Roger Maris and Eddie Murray. It's also not a very specific complaint. It's hard to know what to remove "immediately" when the complainant hasn't specified what to remove. Maybe (news flash!) he could do that work himself instead of expecting others to do it for him. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 17:40, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the pendulum has swung the other way. In a category of articles notorious for their POV and spin, this baseball player bio ranks high above others in syrupy praise of all manner of schtick.--Reedmalloy (talk) 16:06, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, this article seems to give a lot of "information" without citing it on both sides. The section on his singing has no information. And, respecting the controversy on the 6-and-a-half-game blowout in '64 (there's a song about it by Chris Snider) something should be mentioned about whether he made a lot of fielding errors in that 10-game stretch. Also, why mention how he batted in the last 12 games if it's only the last 10 they started losing? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Admiral meriweather (talkcontribs) 15:55, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like issues with unsourced info in this article have been prevalent for two years now. I'm going to go through and start lopping things out of it on the morrow. Seriously, some of this stuff is just absurdly unencyclopedic (ie. The tone and texture of his voice has even drawn comparisons to esteemed Harptones' lead singer Willie Winfield.)

Plagiarism?[edit]

Portions of this article appear to have been copied, nearly or totally verbatim, from a book called Magic Valley Cowboys Players. (Compare first couple of paragraphs to the overview here.) This is obviously a copyvio problem. I'll have a go at removing and/or rewriting as time permits, but I won't have the time for awhile -- if anyone feels motivated to begin the process, be my guest, since the sooner copyvios are fixed, the better.
