Possible Examples[edit]

I think this page could do with some examples of this through history, documented claims or even anecdotal legends. V-Man737 20:54, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the following passage:

"For people in Lapland etiäinen is a completely normal phenomena. It can be compared to someone knowing it will rain soon. If it's looked at from a biology point of view it can be explained as an instinct that in harsh natural conditions developed in people who really needed it. In the north, people live far away from each other and there are no traffic sounds or noises from a neighbour's apartment. Thus all kind of noises are easier to hear and actually notice."

With no references, this is just blatant exoticization of people living in geographic margins such as Lapland. As a person living in Lapland I almost feel insulted by such nonsense. Yes, there are people in Lapland who believe in paranormal phenomena such as "etiäinen", but there are certainly much more people who don't. Likewise, there are people in Helsinki, Paris, or New York who believe in similar phenomena - but no editor probably would write obscure statements like "For people in Paris [paranormal phenomenon X] is a completely normal phenomenon".--87.95.8.184 (talk) 05:05, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
