Relationship with University of the Punjab[edit]

I see in the biography of Abdus Salam that he matriculated at Government College University, University of the Punjab. What is the relationship between these institutions? Patiwat 08:49, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Until recently Goverment College, Lahore was an affiliate institute of the Punjab University. It separated from the Punjab University and became a separate degree awarding institution. This is mentioned in the article. At the same time the name of the institute was changed to Government College University, Lahore.

Merge Proposal[edit]

The article GC_University,_Lahore needs to be merged into this article. This article is named after the abbreviation for the university name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.180.28.181 (talk) 08:05, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Gculogo.jpg[edit]

Image:Gculogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Merge proposal from List of Ravians to this pagespace[edit]

In a recent Articles for Deletion procedure, at least one contributor desired a page merge from that space to this one. When the delete close came up for Deletion Review another editor suggested such a merge. After the close was reversed, at the suggestion of an editor the closing admin tagged the recently kept page for merge with this alumni list space. Since the tagger chose not to make an assertion in the linked space, I've taken the liberty of beginning this discussion at that link. I hope this isn't seen as pointy. BusterD (talk) 23:13, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. I've taken the liberty of moving the Ravians list to List of Ravians, which better meets Wikipedia:Manual of Style (stand-alone lists). Since the recent AfD and Deletion Review don't show any apparent consensus for the merge suggested, I oppose. If sufficient consensus is reached here, I'll strike through my oppose and not belabor a good faith effort to improve pagespace. For fullest understanding, I recommend the opposite merge be performed, from this space to that space. Since the list of alumni on this page is getting overlong, I think that material more appropriately belongs in the List of... space. In the meantime, I'll continue to improve and source the list named. BusterD (talk) 23:13, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merging in the other direction sounds sensible. The problem was duplicated content. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:08, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose As per BusterD, and to avoid the overlongevity of this article. Mar4d (talk) 05:15, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: page moved, Government College University can be turned into a dab page one the double redirects have been updated (which a bot will do shortly). -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:07, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Government College UniversityGovernment College University, Lahore – since this is the formal university per the article itself and per http://www.gcu.edu.pk/About.htm. This will also disambiguate it from Government College University, Faisalabad. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:48, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - Clear case: Disambiguation is necessary and Lahore is actually part of the official name. --RJFF (talk) 23:59, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Updating all citations that refer to the University's website.[edit]

Hi! I know this page has alot of citations from the official website, which is not according to WP guidlines. However, it is stilla primary source of information which is hard to find else where. Anyways, the websote recently underwent a huge re-design and as a result, many of the pages have been moved/renamed. I'm manually updating all the citations that linked to the old structure.
