Requested move 13 November 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved as proposed. Consensus is that the capitalization needs to be fixed, and that a disambiguator for the type of station is not required. (closed by page mover) Bradv 00:58, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Imam Khomeini Metro StationImam Khomeini station – The "Metro Station" in the current title is a disambiguator, essentially, not a part of the station name, which is Imam Khomeini. The convention in most countries is to just use "station" here when that's enough. If more is needed, depends on the country conventions; could be "Metro station" if Metro is a short proper name for Tehran Metro, or "metro station" to keep it more generic; or Imam Khomeini station (Tehran) or Imam Khomeini station (Tehran Metro). But the current title doesn't make a lot of sense. Same goes for all the rest of the stations in the Tehran Metro, so let's talk about this one and then fix the lot. • Oppose per WP Natural. I think this "metro" is actually helpful here. Not convinced that removing "railway" from all railway stations serves any purpose either. Some people use Wikipedia to get around, perhaps not get around Iran, but other countries, so how is removing the distinction between a railway station and a metro station helping readers? Are you OK with any of the other options I mentioned, that don't over-capitalize? Simply fix to Imam Khomeini Metro station perhaps? Dicklyon (talk) 05:27, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per WP:CONCISE, and per MOS:CAPS, WP:NCCAPS. There's nothing unnatural about the proposed name, which is recognizable. WP isn't a tourism/transit guidebook; our titles are as precise as necessary to find the article, no more.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  09:11, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. What is metro? Wikt:metro? Rapid transit? Versus commuter rail? I think "metro" is needed if and only if there is a Imam Khomeini central station, a bus/inter-city-rail/taxi/metro interchange. According to Commuter_rail#Metro, the metro --> commuter rail transition occurs between 12-20 km. This "metro" station is the junction of two lines, of lengths 36.6 km and 20.4 km. It doesn't sound like the metro / commuter rail distinction is important. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:54, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • If help for recognition is needed, I would be more open to Imam Khomeini railway station. It looks a lot like all standard gauge railway to me. Alternatively, sources, translated, including pictures of signs, would be helpful. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:58, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
      • Book and news sources show "Imam Khomeini station" and "Imam Khomeini metro station" (including sometimes caps), but not "Imam Khomeini railway station" in any form. It's a station on the Tehran Metro, but the capping doesn't make a sensible proper name. I still think Imam Khomeini station is probably best. Dicklyon (talk) 06:37, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
        • I think so too. I think you’ve made the case that “metro” is not part of its proper name, and I don’t think that a metro station is a very special type of station. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:21, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
