Minor edit[edit]

Updated population to 1998 levels. I am trying to locate the 2005 census, supposedly released in March, but haven't found anything newer than that posted. Will update if I come across newer info.--Kirby 20:49, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kuwait city and "suburbs"[edit]

Alright, Im having a few difficulties removing the "suburbs" section from this article. Kuwait city's name is taken from the old "Kuwait city" which was the area encompassed within the "first ring road" which was formerly the old walls of Kuwait city. Kuwait has now expanded rapidly and is split into several governorates, in which several areas reside in. Kuwait city is but an "area" within the Al Asimah governorate and therefore does not hold any suburbs. It could be argued that some of the areas listed are suburbs due to the fact that Kuwait city is the main city, and the capital, however the more accurate description is that the surrounding areas are just "extensions" of Kuwait city. I know it is highly confusing, however the main point is that although technically "suburbs" of Kuwait city can exist, the country is not organized in this fashion and instead uses the organization of governorates, of which Kuwait city is a part of one. I would like to hear some opinions, possibly a vote, on whether to remove or retain the "Suburbs" section of this article, since removing it myself has resulted in a revert and a different opinion. I'd say just rename the section something other than suburbs and keep the names of the extensions. Or mayeb put the explanation you wrote here into that section before the names of the extensions.

exaggerations regaring Kuwait City's economic status[edit]

The claims regarding Kuwait's "booming" economy and Kuwait City being a "world-class business hub" are clearly exaggerated. Compared to some neighboring Gulf cities, the economic performance of Kuwait is very weak. Thus, the optimism of the article should be toned down.

exaggerations regarding Kuwait City's temperature[edit]

We knwo it is hot... but those fitures, especially in the "winter" months are a fabrication. Specifically as recorded elsewhere on wikipedia (and sourced there), the hottest weather temperature ever recorded is about 136 degrees fahrenheit (57.8 c) in Libya. And this chart would claim these are the average highs. Orphaned references in Kuwait City[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Kuwait City's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Distinction between Kuwait City and Kuwait[edit]

This article simply does not make any distinctions between the country and city whatsoever. I added an off-topic tag as I am personally unsure of how to incorporate any of this copy pasta from the Kuwait article. It seems like much of it is unsalvageable and should be deleted. Agree. The article talks about Kuwait City as if it is only place in whole Kuwait. I think we should first remove the linkage to the country as a whole and talk about the city alone, and then follow other stellar similar articles and apply their style. --Almuusawi (talk) 15:24, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Recent edits[edit]

I have removed huge swathes of content that appear to have been copied wholesale from the Kuwait article. This article concerns the capital city, not the country as a whole. I will try and reinstate some relevant content that has been inserted over the past year, however much of the content that had been added, mostly by IP users, is salvageable. --Hazhk (talk) 23:09, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Recent changes, differences Capital Governorate/Kuwait City[edit]

Just as an explanation for my recent edits: Across Wikipedias there seems to be a confusion, what Kuwait City is and what its boundaries are. The city gets mostly mixed up with the Capital Governorate (Kuwait) (using either the Governorate's inhabitants and/or km2 data), but if Kuwait City is supposed to be the same as the Capital Governorate, then we surely don't need two different articles. Therefore the only sensible approach is to treat Kuwait City as the urban agglomeration, which spans far beyond the Capital Governorate. --Mai-Sachme (talk) 09:16, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]


Hijab / Mini-skirt?[edit]

What has "hijab" or "mini-skirt" got to do with information on the city? Do the other pages on other cities also discuss about what women wore in Europe, U.S., South America, Africa and India between 1960s, 1930s, 1300s etc.? Is "mini-skirt" now the criterion for the Wikipedia to define how backward or liberal Muslim women in Muslim majority cities are? Please cut out this racist stereotyping from the article.

499-km coastline[edit]

Current version:

The land area is considered arable and sparse vegetation is found along its 499-kilometre-long (310 mi) coastline.

  1. Coastline paradox: 499 km measured how? Probably unverifiable. Remove that number?
  2. 499 km is awfully close to 500 km. The source here is the CIA World Factbook, which has been known to be incorrect at times, and which (IIRC) uses US imperial units. Maybe what happened is that the editor took 310 miles, comverted it themselves to 499 km — introducing undue precision in the process, we don't know it's exactly 310.06 miles anyway, what if its actually 307 and rounded up? — and then added a convert template to convert it back into miles. The |order=flip parameter should have been used.
  3. Is this Kuwait City's coastline or Bubiyan island's coastline? The island was mentioned in the previous sentence.
