Problematic dates[edit]

According to the article, Camille Coquilhat was Governor from 8 May 1891 to 26 August 1892 - a real achievement since he died on 21 March 1891. Presumably the office couldn't be held posthumously, so that means the accuracy of the whole table is called into question... —Brigade Piron (talk) 15:31, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is a lot of confusion here. There were only ever two Governors-General of the Congo Free State: Janssen and Wahis. Everybody else was a Vice Governor-General or Governor-General ad interim. On top of that, the dates are all off... The list is really quite confusing since titles are changing, dates are overlapping... I will try to work on this, at least for the Free State period. The reality is quite confusing as well, because there could be more than one vice govenor general at once. I have not found a reliable list with dates. Henige's Colonial Governors I do not have access too, but what I can see from GoogleBooks is clearly in error on at least some of the dates. Srnec (talk) 23:18, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your work on this article so far! It's a massive improvement. Just to add another name to the pile of Vice Governeurs-General of the Congo Free State: Albert Lantonnois van Rode who apparently held the position from c.November 1905. —Brigade Piron (talk) 18:08, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think at least some of the dates are wrong because they assume that there were no gaps between tenures. For example, Félix Fuchs was forced to resign in December 1915, leaving at least a month of interregnum.—Brigade Piron (talk) 11:17, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
