Requested move 1[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No move for MNM (wrestling); but the dab page will be moved to the base title. Cúchullain t/c 15:44, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MNM (wrestling)MNM – Filing this procedural nomination because the base term MNM is currently a redirect. Is this article the primary topic for the term MNM? If so, this article should be moved to MNM. If not, the disambiguation page MNM (disambiguation) should be moved to MNM. Muchness (talk) 06:41, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring[edit]

Per this comment, I've restored this article to the title it had as of the last RM, MNM (wrestling). The move was not discussed, and as it's now been challenged, I've put it back pending another discussion. For what it's worth, "(wrestling)" looks like it's much clearer and more recognizable than "(stable)".--Cúchullain t/c 14:44, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Totally agree, stable should be avoided as the disambiguator in such cases, as it's an esoteric meaning and so unknown to most readers. Andrewa (talk) 15:33, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly, I've reverted a move to MNM (professional wrestling), which was apparently listed as an uncontroversial move at RM. This has been moved around enough; let's put it to the community as was done in the previous RM.--Cúchullain t/c 16:52, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good revert, as this was not a candidate for a technical move... If any of the following apply to the desired move, treat it as potentially controversial:... There has been any past debate about the best title for the page... ... Can't get clearer than that, can we? I'm a bit disappointed that the admin concerned performed it, they are normally more careful than that. But we are all human.
The rationale does raise an interesting point... All other articles on professional wrestling stables use the disambiguator "professional wrestling" instead of just "wrestling" as anyone can see by browsing through the professional wrestling teams and stables categories [1]. I've checked Category:Independent promotions teams and stables and the claim seems to be true there at least, although the first few affected articles were all teams not stables. Now two wrongs don't make a right, and professional here seems overly precise to me. But an RM may be a good idea. Perhaps all of these other articles should be moved instead. Requested move 2[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was moved. --BDD (talk) 21:19, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MNM (wrestling)MNM (professional wrestling) – For consistency with the naming of similar articles. Other articles on professional wrestling stables use the disambiguator "professional wrestling" instead of just "wrestling". BarrelProof (talk) 16:53, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please indicate whether you support or oppose the move and why, and if you base your rationale on Wikipedia policies and in particular Wikipedia:Article titles it will carry a lot more weight.

Discussion[edit]

Are there any wrestling stables outside of professional wrestling? If not then the proposed disambiguator professional wrestling seems unnecessarily precise. Just wrestling is fine. So the better course of action would be to fix the other article titles rather than break this one too.

Professional wrestling as an article title is itself problematical. Sumo wrestling is a competitive sport rather than a rehearsed spectacle, and has a strong professional competition that does use stables, but it's not covered by our current article on Professional wrestling. It wasn't even covered by Professional wrestling (disambiguation) when I looked there and IMO should be. Not sure how to best fix all of that.

Hmmm, it gets more complicated still... wrestling stable in Pro Wrestling is just a team, while in Sumo it's a lot more than that, the meanings are not compatible at all. Andrewa (talk) 20:58, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
