Ross Kemp
[edit]Ross Kemp is not Martin Kemp's brother. This article says he is. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.172.201.48 (talk) 19:37, 31 December 2006 (UTC).
Brain tumours
[edit]The article doesn't state whether his brain tumours were malignant or benign. It is a major distinction, and should be stated on the article. I believe they were malignant - can anyone provide verifiable evidence of that? If so, the article can be improved accordingly, and the cancer survivors category added. Werdnawerdna (talk) 03:32, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- In his autobiography, Martin Kemp quotes his doctor as saying that the brain tumours weren't cancer (page 3). Jammycaketin (talk) 22:06, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Self-revert per WP:BRD request the page move hadn't locked itself as sometimes happens. It's not good for a RM to start from the wrong end. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:49, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
Martin Kemp (actor) → Martin Kemp (entertainer) – The page was moved in 2008 from (actor) to (entertainer), because he's a musician as well as an actor. The page was moved back two days ago because the previous move was "undiscussed". However, I think that's not a very good reason, because it's been at this title for over five years. I think the recent page move should have been discussed considering the length of time since the last one. Page moves shouldn't need to be discussed if they are common sense ones. However, as it's just been moved I thought it best to discuss it now. –anemoneprojectors– 13:11, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Comment - I was the one who moved it back, but what you say User:AnemoneProjectors is a reasonable comment, the undiscussed move was a long time ago, much longer than other moves to the (entertainer) dab, and for that reason this RM if no consensus should go with (entertainer). In ictu oculi (talk) 15:06, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- However - That said, here are the reasons why I believe the old-old title (actor) is a better fit than (entertainer) per WP:CRITERIA: (1) the main and unusual factor for this former musician is that Martin Kemp was never actually a musical entertainer in his own right, Kemp although a very talented bassist, he never released a solo Martin Kemp album. Spandau Ballet's singer Tony Hadley did. If this was a Tony Hadley RM then it'd be a different story, although neither Hadley's career as a solo singer nor as an actor took off like Martin Kemp's second career. On most articles where "(entertainer)" dab is standing for (singer-actor) (actor-singer) both actor and singer are actually entertainers. Bassist, or any instrumentalist, is not usually considered "entertainer" - Hank Marvin of the Shadows for example, "entertainer Hank Marvin" would sound obviously odd, I don't recall ever having heard Hank Marvin even speak. (2) the second reason, the more generic one - (entertainer) usually fails WP:CRITERIA on grounds of precision and recognizability "actor Martin Kemp" gets 16 Google Books, and 63,500 plain Google hits. "entertainer Martin Kemp" doesn't exist in printed sources, nor almost (and this is surprising) "entertainer martin kemp" is only 1 hit in plain Google. That's 63,500 to 1. Despite Wikipedia having being promoting "entertainer" by citogenesis only 1 webpage picked it up, after 5 years. In other words he's an actor, and a very successful and notable actor. (3) no need to labour this third point but the use of the term "entertainer" tends to vaudeville, variety, burlesque, music-hall, Las Vegas shows, Kemp doesn't tell jokes, sing, do magic, dance - he was a bassist and for many years now has been an actor. Hence the old-old dab being better per WP:CRITERIA. Sorry for the length of the explanation for moving it back. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:06, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Just wanted to say that when I search for "actor Martin Kemp" I get 620,000 results from google.co.uk. "Entertainer Martin Kemp" gets 564 results, while "musician Martin Kemp" gets 40,500 results and "bassist Martin Kemp" gets 55,300 results, so although he gets more as an actor, he still gets a hell of a lot as a musician, and what word better than "entertainer" sums up someone who is both an actor and a musician? –anemoneprojectors– 23:34, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
- Martin Kemp (actor-bassist)? That is still a 10:1 preference for "actor", and entertainer means entertainer, not (actor and bassist). We are not required to cover every aspect of someone's life. Especially as he is not a solo bassist. If anyone is looking for Martin Kemp the bassist they will search Spandau Ballet. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:03, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support procedural revert, per WP:BRD. This RM should proceed with the status quo title in place. Dohn joe (talk) 18:21, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Given what I already said I obviously have no problem with that. Either way the 63,500 to 1 sources aren't changed by whether we start from the old-old or old title. Whatever. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:45, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Substantive oppose per AnenomeProjectors. The subject is clearly notable for both acting and music careers. Dohn joe (talk) 18:47, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
- So you support my request to move the page, rather than oppose it? –anemoneprojectors– 08:21, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
- AnenomeProjectors, sorry, I wasn't clear that you actually wanted a revert, if you'd have said so earlier would happily immediately have done so. See WP:BRD In ictu oculi (talk) 09:49, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Martin Kemp (entertainer) → Martin Kemp – Per discussion above. 25,543 views for the actor/ex-bassist, 2,460 views for the art historian. Actor/ex-bassist is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, hatnote to art historian per WP:TWODAB. In ictu oculi (talk) 10:31, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support, over 10:1 on a straight 2-way split seems reasonable for WP:PRIMARY, even if the art historian is my personal primary meaning. Johnbod (talk) 14:53, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support, seems to be the primary search target for this name, and in any case "entertainer" is still a bad disambiguator. 168.12.253.66 (talk) 18:42, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Definitely the primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:49, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. –anemoneprojectors– 09:19, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Filmography
[edit]The Filmography section of this article is extremely poor. Why on Earth is it not set out in tables like almost every other actors' filmographies? – Dyolf87 (talk) 21:58, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
