OBE[edit]

It appears that Sheen has given back his OBE. But am I right in thinking that even if someone gives back an award they still officially have it (whether they like it or not)? I admit this is not based on any actual knowledge but purely on the article about John Lennon still saying "John Winston Ono Lennon MBE" at the top. MFlet1 (talk) 14:44, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Although he has returned the Insignia, he keeps the Rank. He is still officially Michael Sheen OBE. BritFlicks1 (talk) 16:51, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

He states he "handed back" his OBE and it is not clear whether he had the Queen officially annul the "order". He no longer uses the "order" next to his name. If someone can find a reference on it officially being annulled, that would be useful. Titus Gold (talk) 13:30, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Returning of OBE[edit]

Although he has returned the Insignia, he keeps the Rank. He is still officially Michael Sheen OBE. BritFlicks1 (talk) 16:50, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely correct. There is no formal mechanism to renounce an honour once it has been accepted. He is still formally Michael Sheen OBE. Please do not delete the postnominals. -- Necrothesp (talk) 22:34, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Any recipient can request that the honour not be used officially so using the postnomials here would be inàppropriate given Sheen's renunciation of the honour. This is similar to how while the Duchess of Cornwall is entitled to use the title Princess of Wales and the Earl of Wessex's children are entitled to the title HRH they are not referred to as such. Same with the Duke of Sussex's child. 104.222.122.60 (talk) 03:01, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That is not the case here. The use of courtesy titles is different to the award of an OBE; Sheen suo jure still holds his OBE. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:42, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Source please which states he should still use OBE postnomials? 104.222.122.60 (talk) 05:08, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Usage of postnominals is not up to the holder. Postnominals simply signify that a person holds a certain honour. Although Keir Starmer has expressed a dislike for his knighthood (KCB), he is still styled as "Sir" and still has the KCB postnominal. Returning the OBE medal has zero legal effect. Sdrqaz (talk) 04:02, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The title still appears in the first line of the article. Should it also appear in the info box, or should it remain absent in line with his own actions/ beliefs? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:10, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I has now also been removed from the first line. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:44, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

RfC at Manual of Style talk[edit]

@MFlet1, BritFlicks1, Necrothesp, and 104.222.122.60: There is an RfC here regarding the use of post-nominals for people who have returned their medals. Sdrqaz (talk) 13:45, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The RfC is archived Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biography/2021 archive#RfC regarding post-nominals\Here.The outcome was: "Consensus is that post-nominals should not be used for individuals who have verifiably taken actions to renounce their award, which explicitly includes returning their medals. It should be noted that almost all the discussion was explicitly or implicity in the context of British chivalric honours (MBE, CBE, etc). This decision therefore should not be seen as binding regarding honours given by other countries or entities, especially if there is any formal process or declaration for renouncing (the lack of such being a key element in many rationales here). Martinevans123 (talk) 14:48, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Current residence[edit]

Article claims Michael lives in Baglan with Anna Lundberg, source cited does not state this and is a 10 year old news article.

Politics?[edit]

"Michael Christopher Sheen (born 5 February 1969)[1] is a Welsh actor, producer, and political activist" That last bit of the first sentence is weird considering that the article contains pretty much nothing about his political opinions, political activism, ideology, party membership, etc - I'm essentially clueless. Actually his charity work gets a headlined section but politics gets nothing. Perhaps it should say he is an actor, producer, and contributor to charitable causes? 94.255.196.73 (talk) 12:28, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is a section on "Political activism", but "Charity work" is a much bigger section. I'd suggest using both or neither. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:51, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

British or Welsh[edit]

An IP editor is repeatedly changing the description of Sheen as Welsh to read "British". Per MOS:ETHNICITY there needs to be editor consensus before any such changes to nationality (see note a). I am asking the IP editor to explain why that description is better so that we can then evaluate and reach consensus. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 16:54, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Early life[edit]

The timings in the early life paragraph don't make sense. Hpw can they live in Newport for 12 years but also move to Wallasey when he's 5 and to Port Talbot 3 years later? ZoboneisetheOboe (talk) 22:44, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The family unit lived in Newport for a total of 12 years, which include years prior to his birth. 2001:569:512F:E700:645B:4A7F:F4D:178D (talk) 11:28, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
