Episode Guide[edit]

There has been some confusion with the episode guide as it indicates that all the episodes were 2hr TVMS. However, this is not the case; some stories aired on BBC television as multi-part dramas and others didn't. Compare with the guide over at http://epguides.com/missmarple/ David French (talk) 10:20, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article incorrectly says "Why Didn't They Ask Evans", "The Seven Dials Mystery" and the Tommy and Tuppence stories were shown on the BBC. They were LWT productions and shown on ITV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.71.1 (talk) 22:03, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Marple (TV series)Miss Marple (BBC TV series) – The present article name has created confusion because there are two TV series--one produced by the BBC (subject of this article) and a later one produced by ITV (subject of the separate article Agatha Christie's Marple. Inter alia, a further change will be needed on the disambiguation page Marple. Bjenks (talk) 04:03, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But the hat/header on this article does not mention the BBC and, making the confusion even greater, the infobox is carrying a graphic titled "Agatha Christie's Miss Marple"—a little too close to the title of our article on the ITV series which is formally just named "Marple". • Oppose, the TV series names aren't conflicting. I have attempted to add additional clarity to the hatnotes, by adding the BBC/ITV mentions. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:39, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - the ITV one seems to fail WP:COMMONNAME. See source just added there - difficult to find a source with the full name. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:42, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - At the very least, we have typographic inconsistency in both present names, which should be Miss Marple (TV series) and Agatha Christie's Marple. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 03:27, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The BBC series was always officially called "AGATHA CHRISTIE's Miss Marple" and thus the article should be titled as such. 162.246.145.202 (talk) 00:47, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Airdate of A Murder is Announced[edit]

The article says (in the table under Episodes) A Murder is Announced was aired on 23, 24, 25 December 1985. IMDb says it was aired on 28 February 1985 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087756/releaseinfo), which puts it before A Pocketful of Rye in the series order. The DVD box set also has the IMDb order. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Binand (talkcontribs) 03:02, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nemesis/ A Caribbean Mystery[edit]

The article makes it seem (or at least offers on indication to the contrary) that the filming and broadcasting of these two linked stories out of order was caprice on the part of the BBC, which it wasn’t. It was a rights issue arising from there being a previous American TV movie of A Caribbean Mystery, starring Helen Hayes as Miss Marple, and thus the TV rights were elsewhere; whether the rights reverted to the Christie estate, and then passed to the BBC, or whether the BBC came to an agreement with the American company I don’t know, but may prove to be a line of enquiry for someone with the desire to flesh out the details. It would also have some bearing on the mention of Joan Hickson “vowing” not to return to the part, because as with The Caribbean Mystery, the rights to They Do it With Mirrors and The Mirror Crack’d also had been assigned, and the BBC again would not have had access to them without negotiation, thus Miss Hickson’s participation may not have been a given, but neither was there certainty that they could/ would be made. This is correct in that the rights to three books had all been sold to an American production house before the BBC bought the rights themselves. The Mirror Crack'd From Side To Side had already been produced and released, whereas They Do It With Mirrors and A Caribbean Mystery were both in production at the time for TV broadcast as a consequence of the movie not being as big a success as hoped. The BBC were granted the rights to all twelve novels, but had to wait for the pre-existing rights to expire before dramatizing these three novels. In what was seen widely as an act of mischief, ITV purchased the UK broadcast rights to the two TV movies and televised them in very high profile spots during the BBC's initial run of stories. However, Hickson was widely reported as not wanting to film the last two series due to her age. It was never reported why she changed her mind, but it was a separate issue from the rights.162.246.145.202 (talk) 00:43, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Series name[edit]

The title of the BBC series was always "AGATHA CHRISTIE's Miss Marple" and thus the title for this article is incorrect. The opening credits never varied from this title. ITV's later series was simply called "Marple". 162.246.145.202 (talk) 00:45, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
