Untitled[edit]

Thanks for the improvements in the article! Note: I have trimmed some of the images. Thanks for uploading so many photos, but not everything should go on the article. When we have a large number of photos of a subject, the article should display "best of" or "representative sample" rather than all possible images -- pages and galleries on Commons can be used for the rest. Name Change[edit]

Hi there! I'm trying to change the current Display Title, "National World War II Museum," to their official name, "The National WWII Museum." Relation to New Orleans[edit]

Why is the museum in New Orleans? The section with the title that seems like it will answer this question, is simply an extension of the history section. There is no explanation why this Smithsonian-affiliated museum is not in Washington, where I, for one, would expect it to be. I do not know what Smithsonian-affiliated means. If anyone knows this aspect, why in New Orleans, please add that information. - - Prairieplant (talk) 06:01, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The National World War II Museum was the brain child of Stephen Ambrose, who lived in New Orleans. Also New Orleans was where the landing craft were built, through Higgins Industries. So, the museum started out as a local project that turned into something more ambitious. That's the reason it is in New Orleans. This information is in the History section of the article. However, your question gives me the impression that this needs to be spelled out in the article more explicitly than it is now. Perhaps I'll look for a suitable reference and add a passage to that effect to the article. Maybe I'll also look for a clearer explanation of what "Smithsonian-affiliated" means.
