Unsourced sales figures[edit]

An on-going sock puppet case involves the continual addition of unsourced sales figures. (Often, the number is changed while the source for an old figure is left in place.) Any unsourced sales numbers and/or certifications will be reverted on sight. - Mdsummermsw (talk) 20:57, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Number of charts listed[edit]

I have tried reducing the number of charts listed in the table because there are way too many. I have used the edit summary "Reduced number of charts per Wikipedia:Record charts" only to be told "there is no reason to remove these notable sourced chart positions", so I am bringing the discussion here. According the Wikipedia Manual of Style guideline at Wikipedia:Record charts: "The number of charts should include no more than ten official national charts, and up to ten additional or secondary charts, but no more than eighteen charts total." Currently there 29 charts including seven secondary charts with the U.S. Billboard and Dutch charts. The Dutch Mega Single Top 100 should be removed as a component chart and the United World Chart should be removed as a non-notable chart. Also it would be nice if someone could tell me the difference between the Netherlands chart and any of the Dutch charts. Aspects (talk) 04:39, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed all the charts I thought were unecessary. All the charts currently in the table should be kept as they are all official charts. As for the United World chart, if there is concencus it should be kept. There's no point in removing it if people are going to put it back up. JayJ47 (talk) 23:20, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RIAA certification[edit]

I'm unsure what to make of the RIAA certifications for this single: It appears that it was certified Platinum twice, once with Jive and once with Zomba. Is that equivalent to being certified Double-Platinum? And does anyone know what those types "DI" and "MT" mean?
Cheers, AmaltheaTalk 10:37, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was certified Platinum in two different formats: DI (digital) and MT (mastertone i.e. ringtones). It is not the equivalent of being certified Double-Platinum. Double-Platinum would be a certification of selling two millions units in a format. See Chris Daughtry's RIAA certifications for what the Multi-Platinum certification looks like. Aspects (talk) 16:49, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh digital ... I could have thought of that myself. And yes, I have encountered a couple of "real" multi-platniums, but shouldn't it be somehow mentioned nonetheless? It appears to have sold over 2 million times (I'm guessing that digital platinum requires 1,000,000 as well?). How about
Country Certification Sales
Singles Digital
United States Platinum
Platinum (digital)[1]
2,560,000
Or split the certifications similar to the sales? I've never paid attention how other articles are handling this.
By the way, now that I'm seeing it, that sales figure looks totally wrong, that's probably singles + downloads. Do you happen to have a reliable resource for those sale figures?

New look[edit]

OK the reason why I removed the sales from the certifications table is because I've mentioned it in the 'Chart performance' section, where it should be. The awards section is not needed as I've also mentioned it in the 'Critical reception' section. And I don't think Rissi Palmer needs a section since her version is not that notable because it hasn't even charted. See her chart history at the Billboard website. Why does it mention her version peaked at No. 47 because it hasn't. So I've moved it to the 'Promotion and covers' section where the other covers are listed. Check out "Halo (Beyoncé Knowles song)" because it is a GA article and that's what I've tried to set "No Air" out to look like. Ozurbanmusic (talk) 00:32, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you are going to make huge changes to an article, you need to explain what you are doing instead of after an editor has questioned an edit in an edit summary or for this amount a section on the talk page with a link in the edit summary if the explanation is too lengthy. The vague edit summaries in no way explain why the edits were made.
There is still no explanation as to the removal of the certifications from the infobox so I am going to add those back since the infobox is supposed to summarize the article, but this time the certifications will match the article. The exact sales numbers from a reliable source should be provided in the article and I am going to find some place to stick them in. The Rissi Palmer version was in the article so long, I had assumed the charted number was correct, so I have no problem with that removal. As for the award section, I thought it was common place practice to have it in a table, but if it is preferred to be in a prose section, then that is fine with me. Aspects (talk) 02:02, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah.. I removed them because I've noticed a lot of GA articles don't mention them in the infoboxes anymore. See here And I will remember to add a summary next time. I was sort of rushing this. And I think I forgot add the triple zeros on the US sales. My bad.. Ozurbanmusic (talk) 02:44, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in No Air[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of No Air's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
