I reverted the addition of the http://homepage.mac.com/philipdavis/English%20sites/... references as they're pretty far from being WP:RS. While these pages may be informative, someone's own page can hardly considered reliable. Can we find other, more reliable sources? Toddst1 (talk) 11:17, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have clearly spent little or no time in looking at the Gatehouse Gazetteer website which you write off as an unreliable source. It is one of the most comprehensive and reliable sources of information and citations available, particularly in relation to medieval properties in Northumberland. Please spend a few moments to look at it . I think you may find that your first reaction has been a little hastyOrdyg (talk) 16:42, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that there appeared to be a wealth of information on the site, but it seems to be the work of a single individual (phillip davis) and posted on a mac.com web site. How do you establish that it would pass Wikipedia:Rs#Self-published_sources? I'd have been less concerned if we even had an article called Gatehouse Gazetteer. Founder of the American branch[edit]

I must take issue with the statement "Nicholas Ogle,(1605-1546) brother of Henry, was the founder of the American branch of the family through his son Luke and the Ogles of Rothbury by his second son Thomas".

My first problem is with clarity. The sentence reads like Nicholas was the founder of the American branch through his two sons, but I believe it meant to indicate that Nicholas founded the American branch through his son Luke and also founded the Ogles of Rothbury through his son Thomas. If so, this was not at all clear to me.

Secondly, I don't believe that Luke ever came to America. The Ogle/Ogles Family Association states that "Nearly all of the 100,000+ Ogles in North America are descendants of either John Ogle, immigrant to Delaware (1664), or Samuel Ogle, three times Governor of Maryland (1731-32; 1733-42; and 1747-52)".

Thirdly, although I have no citations on point, there are far more descendents of John Ogle of Delaware in the U.S. than there are descendents of Samuel Ogle, so if one person is to be singled out as the founder of the American branch, it should be John Ogle. A former president of the Ogle/Ogles Family Association told me that he estimated that 90% of all Ogles in the U.S. today are descended from John Ogle. There are many more genealogical tables in "The Ogle Genealogist" showing John Ogle lines than there are Samuel Ogle lines.
